Modifying traits
-
I have a horse with Kit/Kitw8
I want to get rid of the w8 and just have a non Kit horse, but when I select it to modify it will only let me change it to Kitm. Any suggestions?Projects:
- Lined KitM (black base lines) & (chestnut base lines)
- Leopard Appaloosas

Does either parent have KitM? You can only GMT a trait that a horse could have inherited from the parents. :)

if you are trying to change the kitw8 to kit but it only has kitm as the option, it means that the parent that passed the white 8 doesn't have kit so your only options are white 8 and kit m. As Sharayah said, you can only alter genes to what the parents had :)Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

A link to the horse in question would be a great help. I'm assuming, from the way you've listed the genes, that the horse in question received non-mutated Kit from its sire and Kitw8 from its dam. If the Gene Modification Lab only gives you Kitm to replace the dam's Kitw8 contribution, that means the the dam is KitmKitw8 (or Kitw8Kitm). In either case, the dam only has those two Kit variations to pass down.
In truth, you can't get rid of the Kit gene, every horse always has two copies of it. You can only change any of the large number of known mutations of the Kit genes that has been passed down, if the parent in question has either the mutation you'd prefer or the non-mutated gene if that's what you're looking for.Thanked by 1pitchblackdam38
