What do i do now? Just going through my barns i have 12 2g mares that PT at 10 or below. I thought about auctioning these mares.
I am not going to use these mares for breeding but i dont want to make anyone mad.

Are you looking at their PT of their FOALS PT. You need to look at foal PT.
best friend December 2016
No this is based off their own Pt because not all these mares have hadfoals.
Ammit December 2016
You will have to breed them first. Those numbers are only good for foal PTs.
You can look at their dams though and see if their dams where good quality mares or not. You really can not cull based on the PT of a mare directly but if her dam was really bad you can bet the mare isn't great either.

Ok so just so I understand on my 2g mares for the ones that hasnt had a foal look at her dams pt score correct?
Should I just try to cull my studs for now until my mares have a chance at foaling 3 foals?
Denalidom December 2016
I'd wait until they've had at least three foals and then average the foals PT scores if I were you. The dam's PT doesn't mean much in relation to what you're trying to figure out - a mare with a good breeding ability will produce foals with a relatively higher PT, so you can look at a mare and sort of assess the quality of her dam. If you're tying to cull 2g mares, you'll need to look at their foals (3rd gen) to assess the 2g mares' quality.
Also remember that pasture bonus affects foal quality quite a bit - if my mare hasn't been in a pasture prior to being bred, I won't expect the same proportion of high quality offspring that I would otherwise.

No you would never look at her dams PT score. You need to look at her dams FOALS pt score. You always judge a horse on the PT scores of it's foals. No mater what.
