Gulastra plume?
-
Is this girl a GP? Just now really paid attention to her tail and had to look it up but not sure if I'm missing anything else with her genetically that would cause it.
SW FM9 G2 -
Splash does the tail marking as well. GP has to be hom to show and she would be able to be registered in the GP breeders club :)
-
Also, GP must be bought with either real money through the Roving Gene Sales, or with GMTs. So unless it has been bought for both her parents, it is impossible that she would show it.ID 195859

Aahhh. Her and another girl from the same dam are the only ones with splash I have that have the funky half white tail, none of the rest do. So hence my curiosity. I'm only just starting to really get in to all the special hidden genes so I have a lot of questions about them. Thanks for the info!
-
Nikkel is right, the white you are seeing in the tail is from Splash. Gulastra Plume is a hidden gene (like snowflake). It does not show up in the genetics test. Unlike snowflake, a horse cannot be created with a copy of GP, so for a horse to have GP it always has to come from a foundation that has been GMT'd to be a GP carrier (or homo GP). GP cannot occur 'randomly'. Furthermore, only bay/brown based horses can be homo GP, have the typical white GP tail and can be entered in the GP breeders club. Any horse that is not E? + any A gene (A, At, A+) will not show the GP tail and will not be egible for the breeders club (just like a homo snowflake horse needs to have at least 1 copy of appy (Lp) to show their spots.
Now about the tails: A homozygous gulastra plume horse has a bit of a different tail than your horse is showing:
MS3 LostMyJeans hGP
MS2 FlurryFour DPhGP
MS2 RhytmsKaiLan hGP
As you can see, the tail is whitish at the bottom, but not that bright white as your horse has. Their tail is white from the bottom up.
However, this guy is homo GP and has splash as well, giving him an almost full white tail:
MS3 TotalSodabomb hGP
You can see the GP from the bottom, and the splash making the tail white on top. In the middle is a part where the splash 'doesn't' reach further down and the gulastra plume no further up, resulting in a darker patch in the middle.
On foals I usually cannot tell for sure if they are hom GP or not. Therefore I always color test them and go to the breeders clubs to see if they homo GP or not. Just like snowflake, GP is a hidden gene and cannot be gene tested, but having a homo GP horse (like a homo snowflake) is egible for the GP breeders club.
MS3 Dodgerier hGPDP
MS4 Doublesno hSF SHOOWW
This one has a little bit of white at the bottom, so he could be homo GP but it could also be from the w20 maybe.
This one has a full white tail, but that is the influence of the White M:
MS5 ArizonaBats hSAT wMSH
This is a homo Gp foal but with splash. The white you are seeing in the tail is thus from the splash:
MS3 SHOW hGP DP 8383603
This foal looks a bit like a GP tail as seen in the adults (from the bottom up), but you see a lot of white at the beginning of her tail and a sharp 'cutoff', so that is probably the splash. Color testing and trying to enter her in the GP breeders club proved it was the splash: she could not be entered into the GP breeders club. (And she is from old lines from before the time GP was in the game so she could not have herited anyway)
MS Princeley Approva
This is a similar trickster:
MS2 WhitestHeart SHOWW
She comes from no GP parents so therefore you immediately know she cannot be GP. The white and the splash are making her tail white.
MS2 Looking Punny KP SHOW
This is another good example of splash: this is a chestnut based horse so she cannot ever show a GP tail (for that to happen the horse has to be bay or brown based (so at least 1 E and 1 A (being At, A, or A+).
Same if you look at her mom;
Looks more like a hom GP tail, but she is not GMTd for GP and is a red based horse, so this is the splash at work;
MSRrs Punny Spice xKIT
So to recap: for a horse to have and show GP it needs to be homozygous GP with at least 1 E gene and 1 A (being either A, At or A+, that doens't matter). The horse needs to have 2 copies of GP GMT'd on or needs to be from parents that have been GMT'd to carry GP as it is not a randomly 'creatable' gene. The homo GP tail is most of the times not visible on a foal, but it is very visible on adult horses; they always have a tail that is white from the bottom up, fading into their original tail color that is at the top.
Other genes that can cause a white tail are Splash, and the KIT genes: Tobiano, Sabino and the Whitening genes.
Splash is most common in causing white tails, often being bright white tails. Every splash gene has a chance to 'make' a white tail, either SpS, SpM, Sp3 and Splash 2 (C70Y).
Homo sabino horses (especially sabino 1) or a sabino combined with another white KIT gene can also result in white tailed horses. The white spotting genes (Kit M or White M, White 8, White 1, White 2, White 3, White 10) can also spark white tails, especially with Kit M it happens a lot. Tobiano also results in a white tail sometimes, although that is more of a vertical one.
Furthermore; the higher the white factor, the more white a horse has (this is also the case for splash and sabino, not just the white spotting genes) and the whiter the tail will be if they have any of these genes.
Here are all my homozygous gulastra plume horses if you want to look at some more GP tails:

And some more examples I had in my original post but it got too long :'):
Here are some examples of other non-GP horses with white tails:
Sabinos:
MS2 Tiny Moon hetSATDP homo sab 1
MS3 IDontRuleGPKP Sabino 1 and W20
Splash 2:
MS3 Buckymerican SHOWWW
MS3 Modrivar hetSF
MS3 MariasCandyMirror
Splash 3 (is more a bottom whitener):
MS2 GovermentMan SF
MS4 BringOutSilv GPhSFpKP
MS4 Brokenlain SFSpl3SHOW
MS3 SHOW 8358729
SpM:
MS2 BringMeCherries spM
MS2 WreckingTides DP SpM
Tobiano:
MSH Pro7226806 EEAAto
MSH Potential264Pro xKIT (together with w20 it gives a full white tail as w20 gives a horse more white)
MS SHOW 7300812 (no white 20 but this one has an extensive white factor, resulting in more white on the body and thus more white in the tail)
MS TrickedPassagesL SHOW And this foal, with a bright white tail, thanks to the tobiano and extensive white factor.
White 1 (more subtle, half vertical of the tail is whitened):
MS Pro8121388 EeAAW1
White 2 (white from above, blending in downwards to the original tail color):
MS Potential523Pro DP
But, this happens as well (whiting from the bottom up):
MS3 Incredivolver i9
White 3 (only gives a white tail at horses with an extensive white factor):
MS5 Stuck4Riker w3 SHOW
MS SHOW Apple w3 L
White 8 (on it's own does not create really white tails, just a bit of lightening the tail. But combined with other genes it does!):
MS5 IncredibleOnIce
MS4 JustGotFramedDPK (homo w8 and homo KP)
MS4 WhySoLucky hKP (with sab 1)
White 10 (doesn't occur much, but with other genes it does):
MS3 Galliaextion w10 (light white factor)
MS4 YoungMoonnoSFpGPKPw10 (extensive white factor and appy)
Kit M (often gives a lot of white in the tail, especially when combined with other genes):
MS6 MountainSSSSHH SHOW (medium white factor)
MS6 SecretlyComing5 GPKP (light white & ice 5)
MS6 Riked2BINcredible SHO (extensive white factor)
MS3 Mesocoloring hKP (with sab 1)
MS2 HonoredPrincess SHOW (with w20)
W20: on it's own it doesn't produce white tails, but it enhances the amount of white a horse has. So combined with other white generating genes(splash, sabinos &white genes) it results in more white on the horse and thus more white on the tails.
Sabino 2:doesn't produce white tails on it's own, but does when combined with other genes:
MS3 MarvelsTerrorSAT
MS3 RegentOfTheFall hetKP sab 1 & sab 2
MS3 AnExtraParty SHOWW with w20
And the more whitening genes a horse has + the higher the white factor, the more white the tail gets:
MS2 AtlasSilhouette hKPWm White 8, White M, Splash and medium white factor)
I hoped this way to long explanation helped clear up what GP is, what causes it, how it looks like and what other things can cause white tails :)

Lol. Wow, that was really long but so very helpful! I think I understand most of it but this is now going to be my reference guide if ya don't mind, lol. Sad, but i grew up raising and showing Arabs so youd think i would know some of this, i missed that lesson, lol. You have some beautiful horses btw.

I was going to post with an explanation, but Master StablesMS already comprehensively explained it.
I breed for GP (I mix a few other genes in occasionally). If you want to spend waaay too much time looking for/at GP have a look at my list of GP horses.
