Foundation papering question
-
I've seen horses around that are papered "Failed" or "Showable Only," but I've never actually tested one myself and gotten that. And I paper foundie mares all the time. Is failing breeding inspection relatively common, and I've just been lucky; or is it rare for a horse that passed BA to fail papering?
-
They would have been spayed with BA, so if they passed BA they won't get failed/showable only papers. I don't usually paper foundations mares, especially spayed oneThanked by 1SherwoodStables

Why wouldn’t you paper your spays? It’s free to run breeding inspection on geldings and spaysBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes
-
Really? I know it’s 1000 on intact horses, just assumed it was a waste of money on spay/gelds. Would the purpose just be to get an idea of what potential siblings might end up?
-
I already know what all my foundations will paper anyway, so it doesn't tell me anything, so I don't bother to do it! I paper all my lined horses, intacts and gelds/spays

All normal creates that pass BA/SBA will paper yellow/C, and exceptionals Red/BThanked by 1SherwoodStables

There is no point to do it, except for fun. That is why it is completely free :)
-
OK thank you! Silly me just assumed I knew how that worked without ever checking, for some reason.
I appreciate all the help! :D -
I have always been too afraid to try since it still warns me of a potential 1000 hbs cost.
-
Me too! But I just tried it- on every snipped horse I have- and it is indeed free. And kinda interesting. I never realized breeding advice did quite that much. Or that it was even possible to get a Showable Only 2g colt out of a "B" stallion and Yellow mare @-)

Ah lol, thank youSpiderweb Stables

I use papering on my speldings because it helps me cull similiar mares at higher generations. If a mare consistently foals show horses that paper Gold/Star at 5th gen (for example) than a mare that always throws show horses that paper A/Blue at 5th gen, and the mares have similiar AFPT that pass my 1st cull criteria, I am far more likely to keep the 1st mare because the odds of getting an intact foal that will paper similiar is better in my eyes. 2nd mare would be culled because I don't accept A/Blues for 5th gen.
