Small victory
-
This may seem like nothing but it's a small victory for me. Finally found a good new farrier guy that my old girl (19) likes. She has had nothing but had experiences with men especially farriers her whole life despite my best efforts and at 19 shes developing rear suspensory ligament issues (yes she's been checked out by my fav equine vet). It's been a pain trying to get farriers to work with her and keep her comfortable while they trim her feet. The last one just told me "she's spoiled, etc etc", and she promptly kicked him across the barn. Today, new farrier comes out, takes his time, watches her walk and keeps her feet low and easy. I have NEVER seen her this calm and almost relaxed while getting her feet worked on. My girl is happy and so am I !!

A great farrier makes all the difference in the world - I am so lucky to have mine! So happy for you!

My Thoroughbred was like this when I got him.. he was so use to being drugged to get his feet done from the track farrier.. it took 5 years and a female farrier who didn't try to bully him around for him to realize that all farriers aren't monsters..

Thank you @LenasHollywood!
@Bambi207 I know the type. A lot of the farriers local are the muler-type (used to shoeing mules) or the rough stock for the rodeos and just try to bully everything because they think they can or they have to. My girl did really good with a woman farrier until she retired. Despite being born on a cattle farm and used as a working ranch horse in competition when I bought her, my girl is actually very sensitive to mood/attitude and will match yours heartbeat for heartbeat. I'm glad I finally found this one, even if he is almost an hour from me, it's worth it. -
That's awesome! We have such a shortage around here for farriers. Ugh. Two years ago, I decided I would learn how to trim, and now I have happy trimmed up horses. Still learning as I go, but my horses thank me for it and I don't have to deal with any strange farriers coming out to the farm and screwing up my horses.

Thank you! I've thought about learning too but work has me crazy with 60hr weeks for the last 3 months.
