Which RS carry DP?
-
I'm pretty sure these do, but am I missing any?
Freaky Friday
Dark Chocolate
Cherry Drop
King's Ransom
Hidden Gates
Good China
By the way... how long has this list been in the game!?
http://www.huntandjump.com/herdhelpers.php
It's amazingly helpful! I never knew I could see exactly how many of which HH I own all in one place. Very nice! -
A Rhythm of Four is always het DP.
However, I am fairly sure that Good China does not guarantee DP, although they do have the same chance of getting it randomly that any create has.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

Ah, of course! How did I forget Rhythm of Four, one of my favorites.
Thanks for the correction about Good China. I wonder why I had it in my head that they were DP... -
what is DP?Licensed in chinchilla, mushroom & splash M

@Chesneythecorgi Dense Phelomin it's what makes a horse liver. You have Chocolate Palominos, Liver Chestnuts and Liver Red Duns they all need 3 darkening genes to be liver which can be any 2 Sooty genes and 1 DP or 2 DP'S and 1 Sooty these are my 2 Homozygous DP foundation's for example. My first guy is Homozygous pearl also.

@Chesneythecorgi:
DP is a hidden gene. It does not show up in the color /gene test. However, it does change the name of stysty palomino's into chocolate palomino's and of stysty chestnuts into liver chestnuts. That way you know for sure that your horse has DP!
DP is a darkening gene just like sty is. However, DP only affects red pigment (so you won't see it on black horses but you will see it on red based horses (ee) and on bays/browns as they have red pigment too).
DP is uncommon, it can happen in normal creates /via any herd helper, but there are a few herd helpers that are guaranteed to have at least 1 copy of DP.
Here are some very helpful links, especially the second one has a long explanation on DP:
Here is the genetics guide page with more info about it and some examples:
http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=135
This is a topic about how DP works in general (with examples on chestnuts):
https://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/comment/79172
I'd recommend reading this topic first, as it explains 'how' DP works, the other topics I'm about to post are about seeing/spotting DP on other colors but it is useful to understand the basics first.
Here are two topics specially about chocolate palomino's:
https://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/comment/103755#Comment_103755
https://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/comment/95604#Comment_95604
And this is a topic about DP on bays and browns:
https://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/comment/102994#Comment_102994
This is another interesting topic about spotting DP (and seeing if a horse is homo or hetero DP):
https://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/comment/96909#Comment_96909
Recently there also have been some DP reference thread's on other colors, you can see images of proven DP horses over there as a reference:
This one is on bays and browns:
https://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/36202
This one is on creams and champagnes:
https://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/36294
This might be a lot to read, but just like real life genetics are very complex and it can take some time to figure out how DP works, and then some more time to get 'the eye' for DP and spot it on the different horse colors.
Don't hesitate to ask any more questions you have about DP! :)
Oh and just because I like them a few of my fav DP horses:

Aww thank you Rutledge! I'm always happy to explain anything that I do have some knowledge of! :) But I must say nowadays I just copy things mostly from posts I made earlier, that saves me a lot of time :P
