Questions about buying and selling in the forum
-
I am fairly new to the game and I am aware that people auction/sell off horses or straws/eggs in the forum, however, I am not entirely sure how something like this would work. There seems to be two basic forms, one posting with a link back to a horse already for sale or fully conducting an 'auction' in the forum. In the case of the true auction method, how do you sell the horse to the highest bidder once the auction is closed? What are the most common methods? Is an upgraded account required?Breeding Black Appys and snowflakes

Most of the time we use our buddy chat groups. You can buy and sell horses and set horses to stud within the group only, so it only appears as for sale to group members, and common courtesy is that you don't buy a horse in a chat meant for someone else. You need a premium upgrade to make a chat, and a basic upgrade to sell a horse in them, I'm pretty sure. Otherwise you can set the horse for public sale for the agreed upon price, and basically hope the right person gets to it first lol.Spiderweb Stables

If neither person has their own chat, they use one of the open ones. Frustrated Horses gets used for this a lot. I don't know if you need an upgrade to buy in the chats, I don't think you do. Just to sellSpiderweb Stables

If the player selling the horse doesn't have a Basic Upgrade so that it can be posted in a chat room, the safest way to make sure that the intended person gets the horse is to find a time when you both can be online, then the seller notifies the buyer via the Inbox (Private Chat). The buyer confirms that they also are present and has received the notification. Then the seller posts a link to the horse for sale and makes sure that the sale price has been set. Meanwhile the buyer refreshes the inbox page until the horse pops up, buys the horse, and notifies the seller that the transaction has been safely completed.
The only time I have had a problem with this was once when I was the elf for Secret Santa and a player wanted to transfer 10 or 12 horses at about the same time. All went smoothly except for two of the horses, when someone evidently was checking horses for sale and snagged them before I was able to get my inbox refreshed. That was disappointing, but the rules allowed the third person to keep the horses, since a horse put up for sale that way can legally be bought by anyone. -
I think the horses that you are seeing that are already for sale on the forum could be more that the seller is just advertising the horse for a set price and wants more people to see it. There are SO many pages of horses for sale on the public list that they can get lost pretty easily.
Running a forum auction is very much allowed, regardless of your upgrade. The only condition is that you are not allowed to take "silent" bids via Private Messaging. ALL bids have to be visible on the forum thread.
To hold an open forum auction, you just need to post a link to the horse (either a photo link, or a regular URL link), tell people how you want bids to look (usually it is Stable ID# - bid), and set a time limit (remember that some of our most active players are on the other side of the planet!). Some people set a minimum starting bid, but that isn't a prerequisite.
Once you have determined the winner THEN you have to figure out how to transfer the horse!Post edited by ConfluenceStable at 2019-07-07 17:17:42

I’ve used sandycreeks method for years sending hundreds of horses (I tended to send 10-50 horses to my secret Santa recipient at a time) and never lost one.
But I send the list of horses ahead of time so that the other player can open the horses page and refresh that one so that as soon as the horse is up they are statistically more likely to see it first. I would make sure I worked my way down the list so that the other player was refreshing the right horses pages and every few horses would check that they’ve successfully got the horses and there wasn’t any lag leaving the horses up for longer.Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -

We keep telling people not to do this. If you are doing a private sale use a PRIVATE chat room. Doing it in a big busy chat room is a recipe to have someone else pick up your horse.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )
