Color/gene question
  • Hello,
I was wondering, is this what is considered a "liver"? I've created/bred a few bays prior to him but not gotten this specific shade before and I am In *love*. Which gene/color name should I be looking for to reproduce this color? Thanks in advance for any help. :)

  • Only chestnuts can be “livers” if they have three darkening alleles. It’s the A+ allele mixed with sooty that gives bays that shade. I like it too :)

  • Oh cool, thanks!
  • LoneStarStables, your horse is a wild bay. Wild bay does some odd, but cool things to a 'plain old' bay horse

You can tell because, by the capital letter A in his gene testing results, there is a plus(+) sign, and because he doesn't have much black on his points, especially his legs.

Also, that A+ is a link to a description of the gene, so if you click on it (or any of the letters) you can find out more about them.
