KP, DP, and GP?
-
I keep seeing this used to describe horses, but can't see a difference myself. So, can someone explain, and is there possibly a list somewhere of all the genes currently available on the game?
Thanks in advance!Go boldly, where no App has gone before! -
I'm not sure if there is a current gene list, but there should be good posts in the announcements section of the forum from when each new gene is announced.
Basic run down of the 3 you listed:
Kit Promoter - homogeneous KP with any two Kit genes results in a very uniquely wild generated kit patterns.

http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2462013
Gulastra Plume - Bay horses (E? A?) with homogeneous GP have a tail that is nearly white, and slightly smudged mane.

http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=3071255
Dense Pigment - Chestnut horses (ee) with single or double DP, and no/single/double copies of Sooty(Sty or S+) have a much darker, much redder coat color. Includes black chestnuts and liver chestnuts.

KP stands for Kit Promotor. This is a gene, that only shows if a horse has two copies of KP (= homozygous) and has two KIT genes (for example all sabino's, all white's, roan or tobiano). Then the horse gets random and unique white on it's body. Just like this horse:
http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2428556
He is homozygous KP and has roan and tobiano (two KIT genes). Whenever a horse has only one copy of KP (is heterozygous) or just one KIT gene, the white won't show. The horse is still able to pass it on though!
GP stands for Gulastra Plume. This is a gene that gives the tail of horses with Agouti (brown/bay/buckskin etc) a different colour. It only shows on Agouti horses! A horse can be homozygous, then the tail is much whiter. It looks like this:http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2325321
This girl is homozygous GP. Heterozgous (one copy of GP) only is slightly visible on buckskin horses. It looks like this:http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2221372
You can see that the tail is lighter, and the manes too, but that the tail is not as white as with a homozygous GP horse. However, only buckskin horses show this heterozygous GP!
To make things more complicated, champagne hides if a horse is heterozygous GP, like this horse:http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2171228.
If you look at her color test, she is an amber cream champagne. Without the champagne she would be a buckskin, but as you can see she doesn't have a lighter tail and manes like a buckskin would have when heterozygous GP. But homozygous GP shows just fine on champagne:http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2718003.
And to add another complicated factor to the bunch: Silver hides GP completely. It doesn't show at all, wheter a horse is heterozygous or homozygous GP; silver hides it.
DP is a very new gene. It stands for Dense Pheomelanin (or something like that xD). It shows only on red based horses (chestnuts, palomino's etc). It makes them darker, so that we can have chocolate palomino's, liver chestnuts and just more different chestnut colours! There are different gradations. In combination with Sooty (Sty or S+) and homozygous DP the horse can get really dark. I'll give you some colour examples:
Heterozygous DP, no sooty:http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=3032580
http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2973852
Heterozygous DP, 1 copy of sooty:http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2973408
http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=3209607
Heterozygous DP, 2 copies of sooty:http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2879560
http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=3008191
Homozygous DP, 1 copy of sooty:http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=3195205
-Note the slight difference in amount of redness when you compare this girl with this boy beneath
Homozygous DP, 2 copies of sooty:http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=3004339
http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=3121475
As you can see, the horses are darker than they normally would be. Wheter a horse is homozygous DP or not in combination with the amount of Sty (none/heterozygous/homozygous) determines how dark a horse will be. For more information about DP read this topic: http://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/2494/new-gene-added-to-the-game-plus-updates-to-flaxen-silver-and-cream-horse-manes-and-tails-#Item_1 It is the announcement thread that Ammit posted when she introduced the gene back in november.
Unfortunately I can't find the other announcement threads about the KP and GP since they are at the old forums. If you have any questions, please let me know! Hope this helps!Post edited by MasterStablesMS at 2015-03-24 23:41:17HJ1 160524

Love all the different examples! Pictures always help! So that I'm getting this straight, KP horses are homozygous for two different Kit promoter genes? I think that's what's confusing me lol.
Again, thank you for all this info! So much to learn. This will all be so handy when I'm ready to buy another broodmare IRL :))Go boldly, where no App has gone before! -
Can I also just add that now I realize why fate led me to be an App person. All these modifiers are making my head spin.Go boldly, where no App has gone before!

Nope, KP horses have to have two KIT genes in order to show. If they only have one KIT gene (or none at all) then you can't see the white on your horse but it still is homozygous KP then.
A horse needs to have two KIT genes and be homozygous KP to show the white. If it doesn't meet these conditions then you can't see the KP. KP and KIT are two completely different genes. As you can see in the genetic test you can see the kitRoan or kitTo or just kit, but KP doesn't show in the genetic test.
Hope this is clearer?
Some examples:
This guy has two KIT genes (roan and sabino) but only one copy of KP. So he doesn't have any white cloudiness on him because he only is heterozygous KP.http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2258219
This girl is homozygous KP and has two KIT genes (tobiano and sabino). So she shows the white cloudiness. But if I would remove one KIT gene then she still would be homozygous KP, only she wouldn't show it anymore. And she can't be registered in the KP breeding club anymore as well.http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2811468
I believe, but I am not sure about that, that KP is a gene only in this game, not in real life. But not sure, I don't know that much about real life genetics xD Most of the genes in this game are pretty much the same as real life though!HJ1 160524

Oh, I know a lot, if not most, of these genes are real. Just so many different things to consider when breeding.
Still not completely getting the KP thing lol. But I also live on game time, and should be sleeping, like the rest of my family has been... for hours 8-}Go boldly, where no App has gone before! -
Oh boy I'm really struggling to get my head round this too
I've been raised on selecting performance horses based on conformation, biomechanics and temperament so this is all completely new territory for me.
I think I have a DP mare in my herd - liver chestnut. Plus foals bred out of a perlino roan mare and homozygous Gary mare by my Out With A Bang stallion which I'm not sure about.
Would someone mind taking a peek at them and telling me if they are DP please.

Well, the first foal is black based, being buckskin, so no they don't have the gene (as far as the game goes, it's the red based that shows the dense gene), and the second, while it is a grey, doesn't look dark enough to be carrying the gene, but then the grey gene tends to make the horses color look "denser" sometimes. The only way to tell if the grey is dense, is to color test it to see if it is SS for sooty, because she looks at least StyS. If she is SS, then she might be dense, because she would be too dark for a SS.Was Rebecca Iavelli on the old forum

KP is a fantasy gene, that means it is just for fun. Dp and GP and hypothetical genes. That means they are likley to be real but have not been found in the gene sequence yet.Need to contact me? Read this first.
