Calling all sewers. Need advice
-
So I have this piece.
it's 24" by 44"
And I want to make this the centerpiece for something that I want to make for my mom. Like a quilt for example or something. The fabric is 100% cotton.
So what can I do with the panel? And what design would you suggest if a quilt or something?

What is your experience level? A wall hanging would be lovely and a pretty easy project.

I would find some coordinating fabric and use the stack n whack blocks around the edge to fill it out to the size you want, either a wall hanging or a quilt.

Hmm, I like the idea of a wall hanging.
My skill level is pretty basic. I do have a sewing machine. -
These are stack n whack blocks.

Hmmm looks interesting.
I think a quilt would be better, though. She can always use another blanket. The question is how difficult it would be. -
I believe with those blocks, the idea is just to stack the fabric together and cut it apart. Then the process is to sew all the little parts...back together! =)) there should be a tutorial you can find online. It will be easier with a sewing machine, I believe, but you can always do it by hand if you wish. The hard part would be the actual quilting. Hand or machine done it is a time consuming process to complete, unless you have a quilt shop near that would rent a large machine by the hour. Easiest way would be to have some one quilt it for you, the price varies by the size of the project and the density of the quilting desired.Post edited by bluchrystals at 2019-08-27 16:48:42

The easiest way to add size to a panel is to add strips of fabric in coordinating colours (there should be some circles of colours on the salvage edge telling you all the colours used in the piece to help match colours to coordinate)
Flying geese are also an easy block (or row or border all the way around) to add too. You can cut out 3 triangles but I am all for the tips and tricks that require the least amount of handling possible and yielding multiples so I use the no waste method to make 4 at a time.

If you ask at local quilt stores they may know if a quilt guild or quilter who quilts for people or does long arming (if you were in closer I’d volunteer to help as quilting is one of my main hobbies but I believe your in America? And I’m in Ontario Canada) I love to design quilts and do the long arm quilting to finish off the quilt.Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
hmmm I don't know of any local quilt stores. All I know about is the Jo Ann store we have here.
And yes I am in Florida. -
I would google quilt stores near your area or ask the fabric people at Joann’s if they know of any people that quilt for others or other stores.Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes
