Scared to do Breeding Advice
  • I have this boy https://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=9178369
He tested superior to his dad, has a higher PT and A rather than B... Is there any way to know if it is "safe" to do the breeding advice? I used to play this game very actively, but haven't been around the last couple years..
Should I just leave him without the advice for now? Judging by the other results, he is an improvement on his dad in both showing ability and breeding ability.

  • I always run the free and cheapest tests first so can’t say for sure but since he is superior to his dad and a paper level up from both parents there’s a good chance he will stay intact.

Remember now breeding advice compares the foal to both parents not just the same gendered parent as it did in the past.

  • Congrats on getting a brindle.

Are you aware that you can undo gelding/spaying with a single IV?

  • I've had foals who papered the same as their parents pass strict breeding advice, so I would be very surprised if he wouldn't pass.

You could always comparison test him to his sire and see if he's superior that way.

  • I can say with almost 100% confidence that he will pass no problem :)
  • He'll pass. He's better than his parents, which is what it tests for. To fail Breeding Advice, a horse has to be significantly worse than its parents. I think with Strict Breeding Advice, they have to be as good as or better, but he is better, so I'd be shocked if he didn't pass SBA too.
Disclaimer, I've only been playing for a year and I could be wrong here. But I don't think I am.

  • Also, the PT's don't matter, just the breeding ability of the foal as compared to both parents. But since he's A papered and both parents are B/Red, he has higher breeding ability, even if he had tested 'as good as' rather than superior

  • Not to steal your post!

With all the above being said, do you think this mare will pass SBA? I really want to keep her but I’m scared to test!

  • I don't think so, sorry. She has to be as good as or better than both parents, and her sire is A papered (and superior to his sire, who is superior to his sire, all the way back, so he's not a low A) whereas she's red papered and only as good as her red papered foundation dam. So I really doubt she's close enough to her sire in quality to pass SBA

  • Yeah, sorry. Your odds aren't great with a cross like that

  • If you want intacts to pass SBA, you need to basically breed evenly. I wouldn't expect that mare to pass since she's so uneven on her pedigree. Unfortunate, but there it is.
  • I would strongly advise people to use SBA/BA first and immediately. The moment the foal shows up, hit that button before you start investing emotionally and with hbs in that horse. Trust me, if the foal fails you will get a momentary disappointment before moving on to something else, and you will have a pretty show horse to tuck away in a barn to earn you more hbs so that you can do more breedings and get the really good breeding stock you really want.

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure.

  • I second that. I go out of my way to run SBA before I see the pictures.

  • On the other hand, if you don't want to breed for quality and higher PT scores (and thus better earning show ponies) you can not use BA at all and just breed fun colors! There's no wrong way to play the game!

  • The OPs horse will most definately pass both BA and SBA. I just want to add though, that SBA does not only compare to both parents, it will also geld/spay if the foal is very inconsistent. I want to say more than 3 pts incon., but I could be making that up. lol.

  • I have had two horses now pass SBA and still end up spayed/gelded.
  • Thanks all! I usually do just run the BA first, but in this specific group of horses I have bred brindle X brindle in hopes of (slowly...) being able to make a brindle pedigree! I will test, I have IVs so, if it only costs 1IV to undo a geld, I am good with that too :)
So happy to have confirmed he is a step up in quality!

  • I'm pretty sure it's one GMT to undo a snip, not one IV. Either way he'll pass so you're fine, but for future reference
