Even Breeding
-
Hello! I am even breeding a line and I am wondering how many mares for each generation I should have? My pastures are all full with gen1, almost all red papered, and my 3 studs are B papered. Also how many studs should I have for each generation? I currently have 6 gen2, all B papered with the exception of one, who is A.

I have 36 foundation mares.
15 are Red papered Foundations( they go to my B papered foundation stallion)
21 are yellow Papered (they go to my C papered Boy)
I have about 12 second gen studs (lol I don’t use all so some are up for stud). I have 9 foundation stallions (although a couple aren’t up for stud as they have closed genes. I have 4 third gen stallions, 1 fourth gen Stud, 2 fifth gen studs, and 1 sixth gen Stud.
Those stallion numbers from second generation and up don’t count my stud foals (babies) born this season.
But counting the foals I have the third gen stallions goes up to 7, the fourth gen goes up to 2, and the sixth gen goes up to 2.
Heh, I may have gone a bit overboard. I’m not counting my lines mares (2nd gen and up) cause I have so many, but it’s totally up to you how many you have.Post edited by GildedFire at 2019-09-15 22:58:29Licensed for Mushroom,Onyx, Watercolor, Ice 13, ice 16, Phantom lace, Phantom Diamond sparkle. -
I generally keep enough studs to breed all my pasture mares and any extra get snipped when I get around to it but I’m several seasons behind sorting through foals so I have a ton of studs that will never see the breeding shed.Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes

I am very picky wuth my studs, I geld most of them to keep high show horse numbers. My studs must have the genes that I want to carry on from both parents and must test superior.
All my foundation studs are B papered, all my 2nd Gen studs are A papered. My 3rd gens are A papered and Superior to Sire, my 4th Gens are Star papered. Each stud will eventually see approx 30 to 35 mares each season once my pastures are full. I culled my mares recently so I am filling them back up.
Make sure to fill your barns with show horses, those are your money earners.
I have 6 foundation studs to cover 200 foundation mares. I have 9 2nd Gen studs to cover 290 2nd Gen mares. As I bring up new lines or new studs, I geld or spay older breeding stock or occasionally sell them. In comparison, I have over 4000 show horses that are spayed/gelded.Post edited by Humboldt at 2019-09-16 04:55:11 -
Ya I have been buying new barns to stash show horses as i get them and I sold my Freaky Friday so I could get IVs in order to get more and I am just wondering if I should make my 60 or 90 stall for my gen2 mares and get the largest barn i can for shows
