Height Genetics
-
I'm still kind of new and I haven't read any information yet about how genetics plays into foal heights. Is there a dependable system to it? I'm assuming (at the risk of "duh") that both sire and dam's heights combine to create a range of heights within which a foal's height could fall (like a 16hh dam and a 16hh sire could create a foal whose fullgrown height is anywhere from 15.2hh to 16.2hh ??). I guess I am just wondering if anyone has more info than that, like if someone has compiled evidence already from different pairings to determine the algorithm for height range of a foal? And does it behave like a bell curve or is it perfectly random (probabilities all equal) within the possible range?Post edited by FalhollowStables at 2019-09-16 18:16:28

Thanks Sherwood :) seems this is not a super popular topic :)) I appreciate your input!

I’ve been here a long time and don’t remember any one tracking the height range but it is possible to breed up or down in height. From tiny ponies to 18 hand drafts in the same line.
But only our creator knows the back end algorithmsBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes
