Breeding Decisions
  • When I took a bit of a pause from playing due to real life changes, I hoarded a whole bunch of eggs and straws from my favorite horses. Since returning in the last few months, I have started making embryos and creating foals. This is the first year there are several of those foals ready for breeding and I am having the hardest time deciding who to breed to. Back in the day, I had excel spreadsheets and mapped out breeding plans. The goal was to make good show stock. The goal is the same now, but I have since lost all my plans and it is giving me anxiety that I won't pick correctly hahaha! Anyone else struggle with breeding plans this season?

  • I've tackled this dilemma in multiple ways:

    1. Throwing mares in a pasture with some stallions and let nature sort it out (most fun because of the random factor and least anxiety producing)

    2. The new search functions are really helpful, I usually keep a few tabs open and go through my mares and find the stallion that looks like a match and if I can I'll do the breeding then, or I'd put a note on the mare's page. The searches are pretty powerful so I can narrow down what I'm looking for fairly easily.

Once they've got a season under their belts I check their AFPTs and weed out the WEAK. You might want to hold off for a season or two to give them some chances and a better idea of what they can produce you can go from there. I have AFPT cutoffs for mares of 10.8 at second generation and it goes up by .5 for each generation. This helps me weed out the WEAK.

Since you're breeding probably era 0 babies you might want to try to keep it in era 0 so they have a chance of being superior to their parents (pretty sure era quality goes up slightly with each one) and that might be difficult since I doubt there are many low generation era 0 stallions/mares left.

Also I'm glad to see you back on the game! It's been a while.
  • I appreciate the advice. I just need to sit down and make decisions, I think hahaha. I am not doing a lot of weeding right now mostly because I am trying to build up my show string rapidly so as long as they pass SBA, they have been staying. I still have around 15k empty stalls to fill and another 5k stalls that are mostly just foundations that will be aged out and replaced with lined show stock as I progress.
  • Welcome back monsterpony! I remember you.
  • Are you me? :-)) I had this same exact issue when I came back. Except muuuuuuch smaller. About 3k stalls to fill lol.

I actually made a new spreadsheet. I knocked a bunch out after I got hit with a sinus infection so I had down time.

    Welcome back!!!

  • In that case, pull as many eggs as you can and slap 'em on the highest producing stallion you can find, insta-speld and your army builds.

Remember, this game is fun! Don't worry too much lol
