  • Just wanted to add in that if a horse is hom snowflake, but does not have the appaloosa gene(lp), then you won't see any of the snowflake spotting. But a descendant who has the LP gene, such as if you cross the horse with another snowflake who has LP, then you could easily get a foal with the snowflake spotting.
  • @Chesneythecorgi snowflake is also a hidden gene, it won't show up in the genetic testing results. You only know if they have it if one or both parents do (automatically at least het). Homo (has 2 snowflake genes) will show visually on the horse, like in the example above, but the horse must also have LP (appaloosa). I good test for homo (if the visual is ambiguous) is to try to register the horse in the snowflake club, only homo snowflakes can be registered.
