Cherry Drop Project Help
-
So I just got this HH today and I have never had one before! I think I heard that Cherry Drops are hom DP and are bays? I will need to add sooty for this to show I think, after that I am not sure what to add to her and for what DP line I would use her in? What would you suggest for her? If you have one, what did you do with them, what did you add, what line do or did you use them for? I have not seen many Cherry Drops, so if you have a project with this HH please post it here for a little help comng up with some ideas! This is my new mare!

Cherry Drops are wild bays, which is why they look different than your standard onesLicensed for Onyx, Watercolor, Plaid, Mushroom, Splash M, Phantom Autumn, Ice 4, Ice 16, and Chinchilla - ID: 256300

I have a strict cherry drop project going right now where all horses in the project will stem from cherry drops..
Here are a few of mine
NRH Whiskey
NRH Cherry Blossom
Sweet Control
NRH Avalanche
The first 2 have Gulastra Plume and the last 2 are normal Bay -
Oh like the GP! How did you get them to look so dark?Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

Change the A+ to an A so they would be AA on the agouti strand and add 2 sty
-
And that would make them livers to right? And change the E to e I think.Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

To make them liver you would have to have ee and add 2 sty

@HorseAngel it's going great! I got a 3rd gen Blue 2 seasons ago but took a set back when I added Gulastra Plume to the project and swapped out Kentucky for WhiskeyPost edited by LEAcres at 2019-10-03 13:21:21

Whiskey looks very pretty with the lighter almost white mane and tail! Is that because of the GP or is it flaxen?Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

The mane and top of the tail is because of the silver.. the bottom of the tail is from the Gulastra Plume

This is what happens when you GMT on two Ssty and don't do anything else:
LV1C Redwood King
The DP is showing, it just shows differently on wild bays (A+). That's what makes them so super red. Like Bambi said, if you GMT the A+ into a different agouti gene- A for normal bay, at for brown, and a for black, they act more like you'd expect from a DP horse. Wild bay's kinda weird lol.
To make a liver, you need at least one sooty in addition to the two DPs, and you need ee. The agoutis don't really matter then, they act on black bases. If I changed Redwood's one E to an e, he'd be a black liver. He throws a lot of liver foals as he is, since he gives all his foals one DP and one Ssty, and gives half of them his e. Your mare is Ee too, so she can have red based babies, so long as the sire also has an e.Spiderweb Stables

@Bambi207, Wow the silver on them is awesome! I really like the effect of the dark with the light mane and tail! Also I see they are all Cherries! Congrats! How did you get so many? I have been playing 5 months and I just got one now! Are they a rarer HH?
@Natalya1917, you mean as a liver instead of a bay she would be a black liver? They are very red! I had just gotten use to thinking most DP horses are dark, then I got her! Your Redwood looks about the same color as my mare still, lol!Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

Cherry Drops are definitely a very good base for GMT work as the only standard frequency Rank Special herd helper that's hom DP, I'm always super excited to see them!
I love using the search to find GMTed cherries for inspiration :)) Here's the link (I omitted fantasy genes and appaloosa for this one, because they can confuse the base coat a little :) ): LINK

@Peachtree, Wow that is a Lot of GMing work done on him! And he looks so pretty and kinda has a golden hue I think! I am not big on SB2 or SB1 but I have always like buckskins! Thank you very much for the link! Still learning how to do things like that! I agree with GP on Silver! Very cool!Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

@HorswAngel I'll just say I've spent a lot of HBs and real money on my cherry drop herd.. I have a 10 mare pasture where all are GMT to be EE AA and some with silver and then I have 2 GMT stallions.. 2 or 3 I had to change the bone density on.. all in all, Cost about 3-6 GMT each making them between $15-$30 per horse...
@Peachtree I love Kentucky! He'll still be used but not for a few seasons until I can get GP into the line :) -

I mean Redwood would be a black liver if I changed him to a red base instead of his current black base, because I already added the two sooty genes and he had the two DP by being a cherry drop, which makes the four you need for a black liver. Yours would not be a liver because she has no sooty. They need at least three darkening genes, between DP and sooty, to be a liver, and she only has the two DP, so she'd be a dark chestnut. She'd look like the sooty flaxen chestnut herd helpers, if you changed her to ee right now. Then if you added one Ssty or S+ she'd become a liver, and if you added the other she'd be a black liver (with a flaxen mane and tail and pangare).
Redwood is just a touch more dark and red, I think, but not much. The DP has a very strong interaction with the wild bay, which definitely overwhelms any influence the Sooty has lol.Spiderweb Stables

Also as a side note, a black liver with S+ isn't actually black- here's my Freaky Friday, who has one Ssty and one S+. I'll take his Halloween costume off so you can actually see lol.

I will be adding both sooty to her and really like the silver on them! Just still not sure if I want to make her a normal bay or a black liver! I could actually add pearl to her too and add her to my growing pearl liver line since she is also hom DP!Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

I also really like the effect of flaxen on liver chestnuts! @Natalyal1917, S+ seems to really make the dapples show too!Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

I do too! I think non-flaxen black livers are too black- they just look black! But with a flaxen mane suddenly you know somethings up there lol. And yeah, S+ is super fun. I like both the black-black livers with flaxen and the S+ livers, so he has one of each sooty so the future line with theoretically be roughly half each lol.

Lol looks like my Border Collie pupper. People always ask me if she's part Dobe, they don't realize BC's come in black and tan too.
On a sorta sideways related note, the best farm dog we ever had was BC and Rottie. I love those breeds, such smart, hard working, loving dogs.Spiderweb Stables

I love herding breeds! I use to train dogs for PetSmart about 2 years ago and all of my best dogs in class were herding breeds except for a pit bull who was the star pupil of his class, going from an unruly pup who had control over his mom vs actually working with his mom as a team by the end!
Otherwise, my Aussies, Boarder Collies and Cattle Dogs were always the ones to pick things up within the first 2 tries -
Oh! How was that job? They're looking for somebody to do that exact job where I live, and I'm thinking about applying. Did you like it? How was working there?
Yeah, pitties can be right up there, but what qualifies as a 'pit' is so all over the board that it's hard to guess.
Juniper (my previously mentioned pupper) is half Border and half Kelpie, which is an Aussie breed similar to (and related to) the Border Collie. We joke that she's 50% BC, 49% Australian BC, and 1% dingo (most Kelpies are about 2-3% dingo). She's smart enough to open gates, mimic the older dog to learn new things, pick up new stuff in literally minutes, and to get uncomfortable when she knows you're talking about her but she can't figure out why.
Prince, the BC/Rottie farm dog, knew how to manage four different species of pest animal very differently, would prevent the farm animals from fighting, would bark and growl when somebody tried to come on to the property by any way other than the driveway, would keep rabbits out of the garden, and wouldn't let anybody get into feed you left out. We didn't actually directly teach him, like, any of that. They're ridiculous.Spiderweb Stables

@Bambi, I can take black non-pangere livers either with flaxen or not, but I really like mine with spotting genes. Whether by appaloosa or others, I like the black and white look, especially with dapples.Post edited by bluchrystals at 2019-10-03 16:09:51
