Breeding higher PT scores
-
Good gracious - one would think I would have this figured out by now, BUT...
I am snipping almost everything - and some pastures are not having success with intact offspring because my tight standards, but I could use some advice on why mare pastures are not producing foals with higher PT than their parents. What is the BEST way to ensure higher PT? Whatever remains intact after testing must be consistent, and have a higher PT score than parents, and there isn't anything left intact usually, which makes me wonder what I'm doing wrong. At this rate, I will not have any breeding stock.
For example, this stallion
DBLE B SatinBunnySlippers
proceduced these babies.

Based on my criteria, only this filly
9304616satinB
will be left intact.
Any advice on how to increase PT and what I may be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance ♥ -
Im running into the same problem with my lined stock, where even when I breed sup to sup, 13.5 to 13.5 (or close to), I repeatedly get 12pt foals or superior foals...with barley a 12.9/13pt (less than parent). I cant break the 13.7 PT barricade

@bravo25
Frustrating, isn't it? -
I have the same thing, however I boosted a lined stud and he throws me above the 13.7 mark, including some over 14! However, they are all spelded as his breeding level is so much higher than all my unboosted mares.
So if you want to go higher I'd say boost your best stallion and a few of your best mares, that way you have the biggest chance for higher PT intact babies.
Because there is a limit to PT, so its really hard to make that possible 'naturally' (without boosting).
Also, your boy is a 3rd gen B papered, so he can throw a lower PT than an A papered stud, and a *Star can produce an even higher PT. I'd recommend testing colts to their sire and looking for improvement/superior to sire.Post edited by MasterStablesMS at 2019-10-07 10:28:06HJ1 160524

Looking at your stud in particular, he is B papered so he isn't really going to give you better foals in comparison to his sire. I aim for a single paper level improvement in my studs for each generation. And each of my studs is comparison tested. My 3rd gens are already a high A papered and have a AFPT of 11.3 approximately. The 2nd gens are around AFPT 10.8.

My best homebred 3rd gen stallion is this one.

He's sup to his sire, and his sire is sup to his sire. Plus, I require all my 3rd gen stallions to paper A and to have an AFPT of at least 11. -
Also, the PT score of a horse does not impact the PT score of their offspring, only their breeding score does. So requiring your breeding stock to have a particular PT score does you no good. If you want breeding horses that produce higher PT offspring, you're better off working for higher breeding scores (paper levels, comp testing), since that's what the foals pt is actually based off ofSpiderweb Stables
