I saw this thread on the other server and wanted to post it here! I was wondering if the secret santa event was done on this server as well? It sounds like so much fun!

What is Secret Santa on here? I’ve heard people referring to it but have no clue what it is or how to play

Last year it was run pretty much like you would expect a normal secret Santa to run, just within the game. Interested participants submitted their names, then secret Santas were matched and gifts were exchanged. I was pretty new to the game then, so I didn’t participate, but I am looking forward to it this year.

Secret Santa is a thing that comes around in December only to celebrate Christmas together! I remember joining last year and it was SO MUCH FUN! Even though I was still very new and just couldn't get much, I finally learned that it's the thought that counts. Even if you aren't happy with how much you've given them. They love it all and love you just as much! But I'll explain the basics of how things work.

If I remember right there where 3 groups. One being under I think 250k (what I joined)? The next was in the millions. The next one was infinite, meaning get them gifts worth the millions as far as you can go. Both sides contribute this amount until its met, as far you can go within the time (although there are people who go out of that time limit, which is totally fine!), or if you have but want to contribute more you are more than welcome to!

In order to join you will need to send in a PM message to our lovely ConfluenceStable saying what group you'll be joining and your wishes (that's in the budget you chose) to your Secret Santa. When sent you will have to wait until you receive a message back saying you have your Secret Santa and are now this person's Secret Santa.

Now you must figure out how to fill that person's wishes as best as you can. It's the thought that counts! If you can't somehow gets all that person's wishes try to get them a really big special gift instead of many not that special gifts. The little gifts will still be very appreciated but that one big special gift will be loved very much! Remember to not reveal yourself until the day has come! When it does you can just give them the gifts all at once or spread it out through like a week to not overload them or to give them the small presents first then the last day is their amazing present! Or if you find another way you can do that too! In the end just as long as you, your Secret Santa, your Secret Santa that you had giving gifts to you are happy then it'll be the best time ever.

Secret Santa started here but it’s been running for years on both servers

When it’s time the head elf on each server (they’ve changed over the years and aren’t always the same on both servers) will make a post explaining what it is and how to enter and the form to use.

There’s always players that don’t participate themselves but help called Santa’s elves that can facilitate sales or ask your recipient questions or send them early gifts.

I don’t normally send gifts until Christmas Eve or Christmas Day because I know my barns are overflowing with chaos and the gifts may not get noticed or there’s been times where I can’t remember if I got that straw for my recipient or my Santa sent it to me. Also if you post a wish list people will send you gifts for your Santa without necessarily telling you exactly what they sent.

I always send my secret Santas a pm with a little poem I wrote the first year I participated (cuz I still think it’s cute) that also includes a list of all the straws, eggs, embryos, horses, money etc that I gifted.

This helps me know that I’ve sent everything and them know that what they received wasn’t sent for their Santa lol

I only entered the lowest category the first year because I was newer and didn’t have much money and was afraid that I couldn’t possibly do enough for my recipient.

But this community is just another level.

There’s been times where life has gotten busy and I thought about not playing anymore but then I think it’s almost secret Santa time and it reinvigorates me to keep going because this community it so generous and caring. There’s been years where I’ve been trying to reach the minimum amount for the second tier and having a huge list of things and only spent 100hbs (yet if you had counted up regular straw fees or pulling prices it should have been over a million)

Last year we had 3 spending categories on each server: 250,000 and below, 250,000 to 2 million, and Sky's the Limit.

I ran Secret Santa on the old Shoco/WHG game, then did it a couple times over here before I became an official part of the admin team. Since then I have just run both servers Secret Santa, with the help of some AMAZING elves!

It will officially start on December 1st. I don't think you'll be able to miss it! :P

The other great part of it is that people make the fanciest horses and straws/eggs available for barely any money. If you say a horse is for Secret Santa, people will regularly charge you a fraction of what the horse is worth. You can also give pastures and barns, and GMT tokens...etc.

So you mean that you join a group and send in a wish list and you can then just send gifts to your secret Santa at any time? This would be my first time and that is kinda how I understood it but I maybe still confused? What do the elf's do? And do you send gifts for one person or can it be for more?

Okay so I went all the way back in my discussions and found this. I remember being so confused what was okay and not okay. But at the end of the conversation in this link here's the thing, put things on your list that are under that limit.

Like for instance, a certain tack pack costs under 250k, put that on. But wait, there's a wish on here that combined with this new wish is above 250k. Doesn't matter at all. The wish list doesn't have to be all your wishes combined to equal that hb limit. It can greatly exceed it. All that really matters is that each wish is under that 250k limit.

So if your Secret Santa can't fulfill a certain wish they have plenty more or a few others to choose from without struggling to fill in the gaps. Although, people here are EXTREMELY GENEROUS so that really shouldn't be too much of a problem especially when Christmas comes around and everybody is in a very festive mood. Most likely if anybody is having any sort of trouble reaching a goal or certain horse then that problem won't be a problem no more in a week guaranteed. Hope this explained what I was trying to get in the end in this link.

The spending categories mean that you should be spending a MINIMUM of that amount on your SS. You can spend way over.

I think people are overthinking it too much.

When it’s time there will be a post that lists everything you need to know but it won’t be for over a month.

I think somebody asked what an elf does. Since I've played that role more than once, I'll try to explain it.

The Secret Santa rules are that you have to keep your identity secret when you send something to your giftee before the reveal date. So, you can buy a horse, for instance, and send the elf of the year a PM asking them to buy the horse and send it on to its intended home. As the Elf, I would always send a PM to the intended player with a note saying, "Your Secret Santa wants you to have this horse, which you will find waiting for you in (one of my chat rooms)," or other words to that effect. Most times, the sale price to me and from me would be 1 hajibuck.

It's really fun to be part of all the secret gifting going on, but it can be time consuming.

HorseAngel, that first category is "up to 250K". I would interpret that to mean that you can spend less than that total for all the gifts you give. As someone else said, most players who are offering horses, straws or eggs will be charging bargain prices, to make it easier for folks to find affordable gifts.

Also, when you sign up, you will be asked to choose your category. You will be matched with someone else in the same category. The gift giving is spread out over the whole month, so you don't have to do all your shopping in the same week.
