  • Ok, is Solomons Splendor hom DP or het? Do you know?
I just got some great colts from him. The first is A papered and gorgeous, and the second is brindle and gorgeous

  • @Natalya -Those colts are lovely! Thanks for sharing! I may need some straws from them once they are ready for breeding. Congrats on getting a brindle - that is so exciting... and he has Tiger Eye too!

I really don't know about Solomon's DP status. I'm thinking Het DP - he's had a few dark foals, but no liver babies from him yet. I'm very new to this game (only been here a little over a month), so I'm learning all about how to figure out that "ninja gene" haha!

  • Solomon is definitely not homozygous DP or this foal would be chocolate palomino pearl. I didn’t see any foal in the mix to indicate to me that he’s even heterozygous. Did anybody see anything I missed?

  • @LenasHolleywood good catch on National Velvet! To answer your question, he's a Bronze Age, DP is part of that HH. So he's het then.

And I think Clouds got it, he's so dappley. Both the nd1 and the pearl are lightening him. And Pearl of Sheba's dam is a het DP Bronze Age too, so there's a 75% chance he got at least one. It's really hard to tell though, under hom pearl (and hom nd1)

@Crowned1 Pearl of Sheba doesn't have tiger eye, that's not a hidden gene and would be listed in his genetics test if he did. Dilutes like cream/pearl and champagne can create a similar effect though! Of course you're welcome to straws once they age up! And I usually get 1 or 2 brindles most seasons nowadays, but most get snipped. This is only the second to pass SBA! Very exciting!

  • Ok, so this is discussion is a good way for me to learn more about genetics. ☺️
I thought this girl (my favorite of Solomon's daughters so far - my first blue-papered filly!) might have DP since she is so dark and is only het sooty. Now, after reading more, I'm guessing that her darkness is attributed to being a hom nd2 brown. If she did have DP, it would probably give her dapples? Am I right?

  • I think she has it, actually. DP can give dapples, but doesn't always. And she is pretty dark for just one sooty. I think.
