Does broodmare consistency matter? Have a few mares with descent high PT but are inconsistent. They are blue papered and 2nd gen, and throw blue/gold paper foals with most of the genes I want. They are 50/50 on foals being consistent but all have higher PT. They have only had 2-4 foals each. What are your thoughts?

I use consistency as the last of my criteria for culling breeding horses. For show horses I don't care at all. So, yes, but it's not a huge deal. If you go to the GMT lab and pay the cash to have the horse made consistently perfect it CAN increase their PT score. Not always, though.

I wouldn't necessarily breed 2 inconsistent horses together on purpose, and everything else being equal I will go for the consistent horse first

My top 3 go-to studs are all consistent. I generally try to avoid breeding any inconsistent horse, but 1 of the mares has given me 2 of my best KP/S+ fillies and both are consistent. That mare is also a level 8 show horse, so just wonder if it really makes a difference in the long run if I keep her as a brood.

Foals are more likely to be inconsistent if one of their parents is. I cull for inconsistency, especially because my herd gets out of control so I’ve been having to get more strict on criteria so I can continue to have enough barn space for everyone.
