Bad luck?

Quickly hand breeding a few mares that hadn't been covered and I could swear 3/4 of the foals that passed SBA then compared WORSE than their respective parent. I very, very rarely get worse results out of like papered parents. Anyone else getting this or am I just getting a bit batty ? (~~)
EDIT perhaps a sign to snip the sire, on later thoughtPost edited by devstruesel at 2019-10-27 19:03:15 -
Further experiments, bred his comparable half brother to an equal number of mares and got more normal results. Mostly spelds with a couple superiors. None that passed but worse! ODD! Officially snipping first stud and all his get.
Thanks for attending my TED talk :)) sometimes you have to jump the gun on things. -
Some season I just have bad luck too, I usually breed with the mindset of 'they'll make pretty show ponies' and then if they end up passing all my requirements its a bonus!

I don't think they can pass SBA and compare worse than a parent, BA yes, not SBA. They can be a couple of points worse I think and pass SBA but not enough to compare worseThanked by 1Ammit

As for snipping the sire, if he is the same quality as his half brother then it's just bad luck

I have had several compare better than sire/dam and then not pass sba.

I think SBA takes other things into account, like consistency.

You should always post links if you have questions about a horse so we can clarify things better.
My question is how many mares did you breed to him to determine he was a dud? There’s a reason studs need to have 25 foals before they are eligible for the leaderboards (if you only bred 4-6 foals and they all compared worse than that pool is very small and could be just bad luck. If you bred him 30 times and most were worse than then he could be a dud)
Also what sort of mares were you breeding him to. Is it a lined stud that you bred to a group of foundation mares? Did you match generations and papers?Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
Accidentally hitting just breeding advice instead of SBA could DEF have been the problem, my big fat thumbs are known to stray :-)) I was perhaps more aware breeding his brother. On the comparison note, he compared ABOUT as good as, that still leaves room for one to be slightly better then the other. In any news, the snip didn't hurt me any, 2G superior colts are plentiful. On to the next flavor of the month!
