Snowflake question
  • I saw someone looking for snowflake horses, and I realized I had no idea what they meant (well, I do with real world appies, but not in-game). Where, if at all, does it show up in the genetic tests? And what does it look like? Are these snowflake carriers, or is it a different expression of the appaloosa genetics?

  • What you're seeing there is varnish, all appies varnish out as they age.
Snowflake looks more like condensed dots, and the dots increase as they age until they're completely white. Snowflake is a hidden gene and doesn't show up in the genetics testing. Hold on, I'll grab you some of my snows for examples

  • What is showing on your horses is varnish. In the case of in-game genetics, snowflake doesn't show in the gene listing on the horses page. A horse must have a copy of LP to show snowflake, but you will be able to enter these horses in the snowflake club to be sure. :D Here is a snowflake mare.

  • Though if they have a fantasy gene then they can be entered in the fantasy club and no others, so the snowflake breeder's club test can't be used on those. Between that and the hom PATN1 leaving no space for snowflake to show, I have no idea if this boy is het or hom snow!
Oh also, snow is recessive and has to be homozygous to show
