Comparison Testing
-
So this lovely stud has been tripping me up for a few seasons. He was the best of his round of pasture foals(hence his name lol), but I figured that especially being inconsistent, another stud would come along to push him out of my 3rd gen stud spot. But for the 3rd season in a row, my 3rd gen colts who are 11+ PT, some even getting pretty close to 12, and consistent, are all are testing as worse than this guy. Am I missing something that's making him stand out more as a breeder? Or is it just one of those hidden stat type things that's making him consistently test better than all the other 3rd gen colts?

I gelded this boy to keep him in my show lines, but he's one of the ones who I really thought would at least test as good as, but he tested worse than the above stud.

Comparison testing compares breeding ability. PT and consistency are about showing ability. A horse's own PT has no effect on their foals, only their breeding ability goes into that equation. And if I remember correctly, inconsistent horses are more likely to produce inconsistent foals, but that's the only effect that has on breeding.
So his breeding ability is better than all the colts you've compared him with. His PT and consistency may be worse, but the only effect that would have is that he'd likely produce more inconsistent foals. So he may be a worse show horse, but he's a better breeding horse. The colt you posted is a better show horse, but a worse breeding horseSpiderweb Stables
