This guy passed SBA and papered B. He tested AGA sire. So I spent the IVs on a 5% boost for him and he still didn't even paper A :'( So now i just wasted all those hbs/IVs on a colt that i have to snip... How fantastic :( And now i still don't have my 2G superior A papered hom mushroom colt that I am after. So many hbs wasted on this venture :'(

Oh no! Was be at least superior after the boost? I’ve kept a few 2G Bs that were perfect otherwise and superior. Some can be excellent producers!

He was superior but i require my 2G boys to be A papered now regardless. And i can't clone him because, A) too expensive for what I have already done and B) mushroom doesn't clone :(

Logically if he tested as good as his 105% sire and you gave him a 5% boost he is within 1 or 2 points of being an A. I would bet he tests AGA a low A stud.

Thanks Ammit :) I might unalter and keep until i get something better but haven't decided yet :)

@ichigo I only keep Blue papered 2g mares now so i would have the same issue that way

Oh how disappointing! If he passed SBA and his sire is exceptional level, I think he'd have to be only one point off an A paper wouldn't he? I would have kept him, and I usually like A papered gen2's as well

@Kintara, same! I strive for A 2gs, but I’m always willing to make an exception for a superior and otherwise perfect boy.

I get so few blue mares, that I accept reds and Bs from my ExPro line. It’s in the 3rd and 4th gens that I tighten up my standards. Blue/A and superior only. I’m not much into 4th gen, though, so we’ll see how it works out for me.

Most of my lines are C/Yellow so red/B 2nd gen is just how it is.

My foundations are all B/red, so I always used to only accept A/blue for 2nd gen horses (the exception were sometimes red papered mares with outside lines).

With the introduction of mare comparison I will now keep red papered mares than papered superior and some B papered superior colts. All my foals must test superior to their sire/dam.

With the colts they must have desirable genes and as soon as they give me a couple of better papered offspring they get snipped.

I unaltered him for now. As soon as i get a hom A papered superior boy, this guy is getting the immediate snip. I am purposely being super strict with my lines. His saving grace is that he is Superior. After this, i will only accept A/Blue 2g horses that test superior. I just want to keep quality tight and see constant improvement :) My new strict guidelines is to reduce the amount of breeding stock I produce each season so i can utilize my pastures better
