PT score goals for each generation?
  • I'm on a road trip today, so I have some time to really organize my herds and do some much-needed culling. I'm wondering what is considered a "good" PT score for 2nd add 3rd generation show foals? I only have 2G foals so far (I started playing this game mid-Sept), and my cutoff is been a score of 10 or higher. I wonder if I should be more strict, though - I don't have a ton of space yet.
  • @crowned1
I always look at papers, before I look at PT! :)
  • I usually look at everything else before PT score, though I tend to favor the 2G horses with a PT score of 10 or higher, I do have a few that are half a point lower or so.
Remember PT score doesn't affect breeding ability, so unless you're breeding for good show horses PT score won't matter breeding wise.
My 3G always have to paper Blue, but I expect their PT score to be over 10.2 at the lowest, but that's because I want my horses that aren't in the pasture to gain good show points.

Of course, if I had two identical 2G mares that both tested superior and papered Red or higher, I'd pick the one with the higher PT score.

    Hope I helped :)

  • Ammit has said that a .5 increase in PT, from the parents, is REALLY good, regardless of generation.

I just toss all my spay/geld foals in a barn, sort by PT and auction every thing that doesn't score above 11. I DEFINITELY have show horses with lower scores, because they do bring in points, but for my home bred foals, 11 is the cut off. I'm also up to Gen 9 now, and starting to regularly get 13s, so I may bump the cut off score up a bit, one of these days!

  • You have to remember that papers are a indication of breeding quality. PT scores on the other hand only tell you approximately how long a horse will train for, Not how good of a show horse it will be.

It’s one thing for a big barn that’s been around for ages and has hundreds or thousands of horses spread over a wide range of ages to impose a high PT cut off because they already have the older horses covering their daily profit until the foals grow up and start to be productive themselves.

For smaller barns just starting out it’s best to have a wide range of PT scores.

Low PT horses earn less points towards their show score every week which means they take longer to move through the level and level up which means that they are more likely to end up in a profitable spot (and earn more points) before they level up to the next show level.

High PT horses on the other hand can be the long legged gangly butt high horses that take forever to grow up and figure out where all their legs are. They bumble their way up the lower levels and if they manage to place high it is mostly just sheer dumb luck. They don’t stay in the lower levels long enough to improve their placings so it’s possible for them to place last in every class for months. Eventually they will level up and find their legs and get into the larger classes which means they will start to earn more points per show than the lower PT horses can.

It’s hard to tell if an individual horse will be a good show horse until it’s levelled off and is a good show horse.

  • The 0.5 PT increase mentioned above I believe is for AFPT. Not the actual horses PT

    9.9
    2G 10.3
    3G 10.7
    4G 11.1
    5G 11.6
6G and up 12 or higher

.4 gain per generation is a strict but very obtainable goal. I fixed your numbers to show that. Jumping .6 like you had at the end there is probably unrealistic.

(From the links list I made on HJ2, and have only gotten bits and pieces copied over here)

  • This lady is completely off the wall abnormal, but her PT score was a shock when it popped up. She's still waiting on another boost to get her superior to her Dam.

  • :)) good luck that day, I guess.
  • I don't pay attention to the PT score until the last criteria is met. I personally start with color and pattern because I want a certain look. Then, the SBA(although I have been known to unalter a couple in one of my lines because of other factors) then I sort by PT Score, but don't necessarily cull a lower one.
