No Stirrup November = My No Ride November
-
As much as I know horses can be unpredictable in real life, sometimes I get the feeling that I need constant reminding. November is my bad luck month (quickly decided after breaking my collarbone completely in two requiring surgery) and has proven to be that way for multiple years after. This year, I decided to push my luck again, not really thinking about it, and went to try a horse that an owner was trying to find a home for. My first red flag should've been her not wanting to come up out of the field, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt since it was a colder day and someone was out there cutting down trees. My second red flag should've been that it was cold since every horse I had encountered the whole week was FRESH. The third red flag should've been that her name was Bacardi, and I have never gotten along with Rum. She seemed like a sweet girl, stood to be tacked up in spite of an injury on her ear, handled fantastically on the ground and in the round pen. It was when I went to get on that everything went down hill. She immediately dropped her head and took off bucking before I even had time to sit up in the saddle. I of course came off like a sack of potatoes when my foot caught the round pen panel and drug me back. All in all I came out with moderate injuries, torn ankle ligaments and a re-herniation of a disc in my back, but watch out for those red flags when the weather starts changing.

Ouch! It doesn't sound like she's a good prospect. I hope you heal as quickly as possible from your injuries.

Ouch! I hope you heal quickly! And I hope you find a good horse who doesn’t try to take you to the rodeo like Bacardi did.
I got tossed of my young, neon green horse a few weeks ago— twice. It was a big weather change day, too. Never should have gotten on.
...So we’ve been doing groundwork ever since. Filling the apparently gaping holes I left in his training. Fortunately, I wasn’t hurt beyond a bruised hip, strained tendon, and wounded pride. -
Hope you heal up quick. Sounds like a pretty good bang up. But just a thought, don't the masses by the actions of a few and vice versa. All personalities have their quirks. My good cow mare is a man hater/half crocodile (she really only hates men but prefers to kick them vs bite them), doesnt want to come in unless shes ready or you walk out to her (she wont run from you, just glare at you as only a horse can), but i can put my 3yr old on her and that mare wont take a wrong step. She moves as soft and quiet as you please and is totally relaxed the whole time.
Though I will say that since the mare went bronc before you were even set, she had major gaps and that is the red flag. To stand quite no matter what is one of the first things I teach my horses when they are started. Then I atleast have half a chance to save myself before they have a come-apart.
If you need a laugh, I have a dream of finding a big black colt for barrel racing, ............. and naming him Train Wreck. Lol.
