Help me decide what to do with my first GMT project
  • Hey y’all! I have finally decided to start my first GMT project! With the wonderful help of @lethalximpulse I’ve got a cute 2 year old Cherry Drop stud colt. I’ve already made him ee, hom nd1, and hom sty. Now I have to decide what else I want. I’ve got 10 GMTs left, but I’m not above dipping into my holiday bonus just a bit to get him perfect.

    Options:
    1) Warmblood? I’ve been breeding for warmbloods lately, but I’m tempted to keep him a riding horse. Should I switch him or no?
    2) Pearl? I love pearl, especially with liver, but will it look good with a black liver?
    3) Flaxen? I’m not a huge flaxen fan, but it looks soooo good on black livers.
    4) Should I splurge and buy more GMTs to add a copy of s+ to him? I love the dapples, but is it worth it?
    5) Anything else you think I should put? Again, this is my first project, so I want him to be perfect.

  • Personally I would add the pearl because It looks good/goes with anything! But that's just my opinion because I love pearl too lol and I think he is a lovely colt!

  • You could always add just one copy. It would lighten him slightly, but would pop up in later generations as hom prl so you'd still get that creamy look.
  • Thanks @HorseAngel! And that is a good thought @bluchrystals. I might try it at the very end after I add everything else. If I don’t like how it works, I’ll just take it off. What do y’all think about flaxen?
  • Flaxen is neither here nor there for me. While I like the flame tails on black livers, I also like a lot of white which contrasts really well with the black manes and tails.

  • I’m normally not a big fan of flaxen even though I love it on the black livers, so I think I’ll leave it off this one. He’s het flaxen anyway, so it can always be a nice surprise down the road. And I love all sorts of different kit genes, plus I’m starting to really like splash on my warmbloods, but I think I’m going to leave him solid, and cross to some nice colorful mares. That way I can have a big variety without having to pay attention too much to overdoing the white factor.
  • That's a pretty good idea! I usually like a good amount of white on mine but never thought about leaving a stud solid and just crossing to non solid mares lol!

  • Lol I think I’m just really lazy. But also, I think he’s finished! I decided on the het pearl so it show up in later generations. I also bumped up his bone weight just a bit so if I want to cross out to WBs, I’ve got a good shot of crossing the 1.50 mark.
