With a game this complex, there are no stupid questions.
No, showing your breeding stock (and the PT of said breeding stock) has absolutely no impact on the quality of the foals. Only their breeding score (paper level and whether they pass BA/SBA) determines the quality of the foals.
However! Showing them does increase their points, which increases their daily payout, which increases your daily bonus. I'd advise showing everything you can. I show everything except the mares I keep in pasture to get a pasture bonus, since you can't show horses in pasture. But my stallions and the mares not in pasture get shown twice a week right along with my showponies. Some of them have accumulated quite a few points and have a pretty decent payout!
