excited but confused
  • I got my first snowflake! I bred a hom SF with some hets and of course they're all only hets but I bred two heteros together and got a homo! Hooray! and It's got tiger eye!

But I'm confused on the paper level. She came from an A/Blue mating and is red. And she passed SBA.

  • @Chesneythecorgi Shes a high Red. She is still better than her parents though. Congratulations on such a wonderful filly!♥️
  • Thanks!

  • She is definately not better than her parents, no. But she is "about as good as" them. Meaning both sire and dams are low A/blue, and she is a high red :)

  • She can't be better than her parents, or she'd be Blue. She must be just slightly worse, but close enough to test "as good as". Her parents must be very low A/Blue, and she must be very high B.
I've never seen that happen before, not that I've got a ton of experience, but still. Weird!

  • I thought a foal that passed SBA HAD to be better than the parents? It doesn't make sense otherwise. Cause that's what SBA does right? It snips the foals that aren't better than both parents?
  • SBA snips foals that aren't as good as or better than both parents. And 'as good as' can mean just very slightly worse. Not much, enough that if you comparison tested they'd be AGA, but slightly. Just like how a horse can comparison test as good as but paper higher: that would mean the parent is a high B and the foal is a low A, for instance, and they're actually very close.
BA leaves intact horses that would test worse, so long as they wouldn't be a lot worse

  • I would have figured the uneven breeding would have gotten her snipped anyway. Very lucky, no matter what she papered.
  • Please, note: AGA does not mean "as good as." It means "about as good as." So, the foal may be a little bit worse than its parents, exactly as good as its parents, or a little bit better than its parents. So, as has already been said, this filly's breeding ability is just a little bit worse than, but fairly close to, her dam's and sire's, but she is enough below them to paper Red. not Blue.
