I want to collect eggs from my mare who is 14 years old. If i take some eggs from her and she passes can I still use those eggs in the future? I've never done anything to do with eggs and straws before and want to try. She is my favorite and I want babies from her as long as I can go

yes you can use them even after she passes

Horses don’t pass until they turn 18 or more so you do have a few more months until she’s at risk of passing

I usually start pulling eggs between 15/16 years up until they pass.. if you pull an egg every 5 days and then flush them before the 28th, you get more eggs from them.. if the mare doesn't have any living descendants before she passes, I'll just do a cull breeding where I'll use an egg and snip the baby and put it in the show barn just to keep her eggs from going on a timer until I find what I want to use the rest for..

You can flush/ pull eggs all the way to the end of the month, after the 28th

@Tali - I tried pulling eggs a few months ago after the 28th and it wouldn't let me :-?
Might have been buggy at that time :-??

...Huh. I actively pulled eggs on Halloween to see if I could, because I'd assumed you couldn't. I've been able to every day of the month. The only time I couldn't was the morning of the first, and it was working by that afternoon
