Even breeding
  • So is even breeding super important and how exactly do you do it? I feel like nobody is intrested in my horses and alot of them are not even bred I was wondering if this may be part of the issue. if so how exactly do you even breed? I believe it is gold-star then blue-A yellow-B and Red-C right ? Or is it that ice, watercolor, chinchilla, and wrong warp are older Gene's now?

I have heard yellow to B is correct but this stud is red to B and says even bred https://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=9557964

  • Even breed can mean two different things; one is even generations, i.e. foundations only to foundations,. The other is even papers, like you mentioned, but B/Red pair and C/Yellow pair. I’m not sure about the specific genes you mentioned, I know I personally don’t have licenses for any of them.

  • I get the papers part of why that could make a difference but why would generations matter? Does it make a difference?

  • If you go to the Announcements page, and click on page 3 (maybe 4,) scroll down and you’ll see confluence posted a bunch of conversations about breeding- and ammit explains a bunch too in there. Thats how I figured it all out :-)

  • I believe the even generation breeding matters to most people because it's more aesthetically pleasing to look at and because the babies are more likely to be intact after running them through breeding advice. Say you have a 4th generation stallion with a PT score of 12.00 and a regular create foundation mare with a score of 9.2 or something similar, the foal likely won't be able to compare with the stallion score and will be spayed/gelded, even if it is a relatively nice baby.

  • I think breeding even is important to me because it's easier to track the quality of the line. You can go back on your mares and stallions papers and see when they papered up and then make a better guess on good breeding pairs.

The papers are Yellow/C Red/B Blue/A and Star/Gold You can have a high B or low B stud, a high Blue mare or a low Blue mare, etc.. So papers only give a little bit of insight on breeding potential. But it's a good guestimate.

@Mistylynn91 PT score doesn't have anything to do with breeding :) It only shows the horses showing potential. You can breed two foundations, one with a 10.4 PT and one with a 0.4 PT and get an intact baby that might even paper up. I personally don't worry about PT score unless I'm looking for my lined horses to be good show horses too. Paper levels give a basic level of breeding potential. If that 4th Gen stud and the foundation mare both match in breeding quality (usually would mean matching papers, so B/Red etc.) then they would more likely have an intact baby no matter the PT score.

    Hope I could help!

  • Thank you so much everyone!
  • Even breeding is very important to me for my lines and I think is does help with keeping better track of everything! Sorta of like ensuring having good building blocks to breed a better quality horse! Thats my opinion anyway and it makes me feel better breeding that way accept I forgot to put that on my list for SS because I was sooo excited silly me, so I was just putting it out there!

  • For a long time, there was a definite prejudice in the game against horses with uneven generations in their pedigree, especially the visible one that goes back to great-grandparents. However, Ammit has been pretty stern about trying to quench that as an absolute requirement in the game and has pushed for breeding equal levels of papers instead, regardless of how many generations are on either side of the pedigree.

As others have pointed out, matching papers is more helpful in getting intact foals. Matching both papers and generations may be even more helpful.

All that said, however, every one is encouraged to play the game the way they want to play it. Speaking for myself, I get my greatest enjoyment from helping new players understand the game (probably because teaching is my strongest gift :D). So I have over 2,000 horses on each server but most of them are foundations and 2nd generations. :-)) I have yet to pursue any line much farther than 3rd gen.

Another important point is that breeding horses to sell is not the way to get ahead in this game. Everyone is busily breeding their own horses, so if you aren't offering something really special or carrying the latest genetic introduction, buyers will probably be scarce. To make money in the game, collect and hoard good neutered show horses, show all your intact ones that aren't in pasture, and watch their show point totals and your nightly showing bonus slowly but surely increase.

This is a game of patience, not quick results. So don't give up. If you stick with it, you, too, may end up with more horses than you can easily manage. :D

  • I breed even generations, breeding even papers is more to increase the amount of intact foals. I breed evenly because it helps me track quality, and to increase quality with each generation

  • I agree with Kintara. I only breed even generations.. it’s prettier to look at and it helps me to track quality. I can’t stand when pedigrees are all over the place lol! I don’t care about breeding even paper levels nearly as much. I’ll breed my A papered 2G studs to my Red 2G mares no problem.

  • I'm with Kintara and Sharayah Stables, if I see uneven breeding I won't buy it no matter how amazing their genes or any other testing is, it's the absolute minimum I require for horses I own. But in saying that, we've all been playing since way back when there was that prejudice against uneven breeding like SandyCreekAcres mentioned. So yes it may put some people off buying horses off you but there are more people breeding unevenly these days as well.

  • I asked this same question and promised myself that, starting next season, I’d commit to even breeding in my latest project. And then I got a blue filly from a 2g/foundation cross and it all went out the
    window.
  • Kgstable thanks for the clarification that makes sense. I found the explanation I used from an older post on the forum. It would also make sense as to why some of my babies haven't been intact when I try to match PT scores. I had an uneven stallion and mare pairing I tried to put a lot of thought into, and it was relatively expensive for me to breed. The baby was absolutely gorgeous and scored a bit higher PT-wise than either of the parents but was automatically spayed and I was so confused and upset I just sold it back to the game and took a loss on it! Hopefully now that won't be so likely to happen again!
