Speak to me of Varnish
-
Okay, so we know that varnish is one of the hidden, untestable genes that only shows on appys.
Is visible varnishing dominant or recessive? (we don't have incomplete dominance on here, right?)ID #238663, she/her pronouns -
Ok, looking on the forum more it appears that visible varnish is dominant, slow/no varnishing is recessive, and snowflake is on the varnish locus as well. Neat!ID #238663, she/her pronouns

and being *dominant* means being het Vrn would show visible varnish, and you'd never know if the other allele was vrn or vsf, then.

We actually do have several genes with incomplete dominance (eg. cream, sooty, and brown). I am not sure if varnish is one of them, but it might be, which would mean that hom Vrn would varnish out faster than het. I am fairly sure that dominance order of the 3 alleles is that varnish (Vrn) is dominant to no varnish (V) which is dominant to snowflake (Vsn).Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.
