Bone size
  • Do anyone know the bone size range for Drafts, Warmblood and Riding horses?
For example, if I am going to search after Drafts, what do I put in the search field?

And why is it called "bone size"?
  • Somewhere near 1.25-1.3ish is the line between riding horse and warm blood. Somewhere around 2.7 to 2.75 is the line between warmblood and draft horse. If you think about the horses in real life, a Clydesdale has much larger bones and a stockier build then say, and Andalusian, even if they’re the same height so I assume that is why that term is used.
  • 2.5 and up is drafts. I know that.

  • Thank you!
Cool fact, what does the numbers refer to?
  • What is the difference between Riding Horses, Warmbloods and Draft horses?
Light horses/Riding Horses have bone size ranging from .5 inches to 1.49 inches
Warmbloods have bone size ranging from 1.5 inches to 2.49 inches
Draft horses have bone size ranging from 2.5 inches to 3.5 inches
  • Riding Horses 1.49 and below
    Warmbloods 1.50-2.49
    Drafts 2.50 and above
