Slow Page Loads
-
I’ve been negligent resorting my pastures back from the mass exodus to primary pasture and am in the midst of my cram session to try to get breeding done today (yes, I know I have all month, there’s a method to my madness that I’ll spare the lengthy explanation of here). I am viewing my primary pasture in search with additional filter criteria to show only mares I need to move to other pastures in groups. I click one page, move the mare, then navigate back on the browser to avoid the multiple clicks and refiltering that would be required to bring the list of mares I am trying to move back up. This works well for awhile (sometimes 10-15 mares, sometimes as few as 1-2), then the page will not load. At that point, the page will not load, nor will other HAJ pages when I try to navigate by typing directly into the browser or using saved links. Closing the browser, which always logs me out, then reopening and logging back in solves the issue temporarily, but will never get through organizing my pastures this painstakingly.Post edited by Ammit at 2020-03-20 03:04:20

Sorry, I am having a hard time following your post. Which page specifically is being slow for you?Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Effectively, it’s just a search for horses page with complex criteria, but only slow when I navigate back to it. After that, no HAJ page will load until I close the browser. No issues with other sites when the problem occurs.
-
So using the search page causes the game to slow down for you?Need to contact me? Read this first.

The behavior you are describing happens when there is a hung database connection. Happens when you overload the database and it makes you wait for your own overloaded connection to clear which can sometimes take a while. It's not sitewide it is specific to your login session.
Are you sure it is the search and not the pasture page hanging things up?Need to contact me? Read this first.

I am not going to pretend I understood most of what you said. Being tied to my login session makes sense.
I am not sure exactly where things are hanging up, what exactly should I look for to help pinpoint that, or to avoid the problem in the future?Post edited by LenasHollywood at 2020-02-07 09:17:11 -
There has been past issues from slowness from using the pasture moving feature on the pasture page (not the barn or horse page) are you moving horses from the pasture page?Need to contact me? Read this first.

Page progression is:
- Pasture page > view in search
- Individual horse page > move horse
- Return to search -
From what I am reading it sounds like you are using the back button to get back to the search page?
Does it still happen when you open the horse in another tab/window or just when your hitting the back button to get return to the search.
The back button tends to break things and I would think that the session could get hung up if it’s not quite completely refreshing the search when you go back but you’ve changed the search by moving the horse out of the pasture.Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
Yes the back button could be causing issues. As could running the searches over and over. Opening the horses in another tab could probably fix the the bogging up from rapid fire searches.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Have you cleared your cookies/history lately? I noticed my game hit a wall after doing a massive sort and clearing cookies/reopening my browser fixed it right away.

That does seem to help - I lose the ability for the next mare to be moved automatically being moved to the top of the search since it’s not refreshing each time (part of my query is in primary pasture), but much better than having to close completely out. Thanks!
-
I tried working on this tonight, and using the new method of opening the mare’s page in a new tab, I ran into the same issue on mare #9. Her page would not load (I gave it a full minute), closed out and tried again, refreshed the search, and attempted to go to the home page by typing it directly into the address bar. None of those pages would load. Closing the browser (logging out) and reopening allowed pages to load again.

Can you try doing exactly as you would do but just don't actually move the mares and see if you can reproduce this?Need to contact me? Read this first.

I went through 50 mares twice using the same process but excluding moving them like you suggested with no issue.
-
So you only had issues when you did the moving from the horse page?Need to contact me? Read this first.

Correct, but the issue actually appeared when returning to the search page after a movePost edited by LenasHollywood at 2020-02-11 08:51:24

I moved about 40 horses that way and was not able to trigger any slowdown nor am I seeing anything that might cause such a bog up. Later I can try doing it from your account to see if I can make it happen.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I logged in to your account. Did a ton of pasture moving back and forth, a ton of search refreshes etc and can not find a way to reproduce this. I also looked through the code and I am not seeing anything slow that might be hanging you up. We roll out the code sync soon so let's see if it continues after that goes out.Need to contact me? Sounds like a good plan - thanks for all of your help with this!

What you could do instead of moving the mares is put a letter or number at the start of each mare's name you want to move then go into the pasture you want them to be in and move them all in one single click by mass selecting them.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I see now! Overlooked it after early on in my playing because most of my time is spent on mobile - I have to go out of my way to have internet access on a PC so only do it when I need to do a herd download. That’s probably worth it next time I have a bunch of pasture sorting to do, thanks for the idea.
-
@LenasHollywood Ok I accidentally recreated this when moving mares in bulk to the pasture from the pasture page.
Are you actually moving horses using the horse page, or are you moving them using the pasture page?Need to contact me? Read this first.

Using the horse page. I can never remember who exactly the horses are just from their names, so it’s easier to search by specific criteria (i.e. all daughters of a specific sire over age 3) then move them from each horse’s page.
-
And thank you for your help with this!

I have not done any more with this because I finished with breeding and haven’t had the heart to get organized for next season yet. When I start up again within the next couple days, I will let you know. Thanks for checking in!
-
I have done a bunch more testing and cone through the code and I really can not find anything that would be causing this. At this point I am at a bit of a loss. No one else is reporting issues either so it is probably juts some highly specific combination of your connection and the way you use the site that is causing it to hang.Need to contact me? I have done a little so far this month with no more issues. Much still to come because I shortcut last month and didn’t actually sort well, so hopefully still good results.
-
I spoke too soon... it happened to me four times after 2-3 horses each time this evening. I had several groups I moved in the same manner (around 5-9 mares each time) that worked perfectly fine.
-
Can you give way way more detail about what your process is that you are getting hung sessions? Not sure what you mean by 2-3 horses and then 5-9 horses. Can you give me a detailed step by step?Need to contact me? Read this first.

1. Perform detailed search.
2. Click on mare #1 link.
3. Move mare #1 to correct pasture from control panel.
4. Navigate back to detailed search.
5. Repeat 2-4 with additional mares.
6. Search stops loading at about 10% progress after X number of mares or is completely fine for that number.Post edited by LenasHollywood at 2020-03-10 03:19:04 -

Pressing the back button.
-
It seems most likely that it is using the back button not moving horses into the pasture that is causing your session to lock and why I can't reproduce it. I posted this back in Feb.

I recognize that the back button has its issues. It is so much faster doing it that way, even having to close everything out completely periodically and log back in than opening up the mares’ pages in a separate tab that it’s seemed worth the risk.
This was one of my much simpler searches that made it hang, after moving only one mare, so the search was loaded only one time successfully and failed on the first attempt to navigate back to it.

It seems only to do it when moving horses is also in the mix. No idea why though.

I didn’t even k ow optimization mode existed, so probably not (unless I did it then forgot about it). How do you turn it on? If I did turn it on, would it stay turned on between login sessions?
