If you scroll down on the Tack Tab, you'll find a list of all the tack and the backgound you've added to the horse. There should be several options beside each--Update, which you can use to change colors; Deactivate, which will turn off that thing but leave it in the record; and Delete, which removes the object permanently from the record. So, if you deactivate or delete the plain reins, that should solve the problem, unless the bridle you have comes with reins. In that case, you'll probably have to delete the plain bridle and add one from the Build a Bridle pack to go with the braided reins.
