Dreading to go through foals

Anyone else dreading to go through and organize and cull foals this season? Ugghhh :PLicensed for Onyx, Watercolor, Plaid, Mushroom, Splash M, Phantom Autumn, Ice 4, Ice 16, and Chinchilla - ID: 256300

If I was smart I’d stretch it out and go through them slowly :-))Licensed for Onyx, Watercolor, Plaid, Mushroom, Splash M, Phantom Autumn, Ice 4, Ice 16, and Chinchilla - ID: 256300

I go through them as I breed. Takes more time, but it’s a lot less work at the end of the season where I do one more quick cull/name.
-
I also go through as I breed, usually by generation. Helps me pace myself and keep track of it all. I'm doing a huge overhaul of breeding stock so I'm also evaluating mares and stallions as I breed too. Sooooooo fun.... Good news is, instead of keeping 1000 foals a season I'm now only keeping 400! So I'm on the downswing as a mondo barn, which is good for everyone.
-
That's what I did. I've been breeding a pasture about every five days, then sorting the foals a little at a time.
-
I'm going to say thank you for the effort, @ichigo. I know I've started an upswing that I'm trying to get ahead of, just because I've had so many foals finally start to pass SBA that match my breeding goals. I've had to add new goals just so that I cull more.
-
Since I've started cracking down on quality, I have a lot less horses to breed and I usually breed at 12am the morning pastures open and I start culling that night and then I'm done for the rest of the season... I've actually found myself less on the game meticulously going through horses throughout the season.. I get on to pull eggs and look for new show horses every now and then and then I'm off..
-
I try and go through as I breed, means I breed a lot less, but that's not a bad thing lol!
-
P.S. I'm never done breeding!!
Especially with the shorter breeding season. However it means I usually breed the ones that grab my interest, and all the rest get left behind. It's sort of like a really passive cull lol! -
I did a massive cull through my barns at the end of last year. Got all caught up on all my stud comp testing and did all my mares. Added prefixes to all the horses missing them and sorted into their breeding barns.
I love the bulk barn gelding button. I just open a search in a second tab enter my criteria and run through my barn checking off all my foals that show up not fitting it and a few clicks at the end to alter them all and send them to the auction barn.
I’ve also made it through all my breeding horses not in pastures and named them all except a batch of 2nd gens. I also pulled all my mares and studs out of the pastures yesterday and named a bunch before returning them but still have a barn to go through to finish that.
So far this year is the first month I haven’t had my foal holding barn cleared out before the 20th. And I just pulled them out of the pastures yesterday and did my initial SBA testing but haven’t sorted through the results to send to today’s auction like I meant to.
But this month I’ve been concentrating on clearing out my freezer and have reduced my straws to 2 studs. But absolutely not looking forward to having to implant all the embryos!Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
I LOVED to get through my foals after the last changes! Just a few clicks, and they are all gelded, spayed, sorted, branded, tacked up and named with the right prefixes. This is just amazing! :D
-
Yes the new tools are awesome.
Turns sorting through my foals from a multi weekend affair to 2-3 days max. So far today in about 40 minutes I’ve tested 912 foals and have already reduced my intacts to 369 and have an auction barn ready for ThursdayBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
Definitely need to go through my breeding stock too. Today is the day as long as my baby allows it anywayLicensed for Onyx, Watercolor, Plaid, Mushroom, Splash M, Phantom Autumn, Ice 4, Ice 16, and Chinchilla - ID: 256300

I still haven’t gotten through resorting my pastures after the mass merge to the primary pasture, let alone finish this season’s breeding or foal sorting. I need to catch up!
-
I never really go through my breeding stock, if they are boring they'll just sit there unbred, if their quality is down then their foals won't be intact anyway! Makes less work for me!
