So liberating
-
Strangely, it feels liberating after I mass spelded my 6th gens and beyond. Most of them were from older lines that existed before the new mare testing tool came out, and far too many dams in those bloodlines couldn't be tested because they were deceased, and it was just hard to progress. The quality of those lines just weren't measuring up to my younger lines that has had their dams undergo the new testing. So I'm eyeballing my 5th gen breeding stock with the idea of falling back to 4th gen, since most of my 4th gen lines aren't so ancient and more of the mares in the pedigrees have undergone the new testing.

Agreed, I love that mass alter button! I went the other way and did all generations of entire lines. :DBluegrass #143376 * Specializing in Iced Axiom (ExPro Cobs) and Iced Phantoms (PF Riding Ponies)

I just finished eyeballing my 5th gen boys, I had 20+ and now I'm down to just 10 because they had at least a pedigree fully tested going back to 3rd gen with the 3rd gen mares testing superior to their 2nd gen dams. It was a nice bonus if their 2nd gen dams were also tested, but I think 3rd gen might be enough for now, since all the mares passed SBA and had the appropriate papering for their generations.

I went through and culled a bunch of horses that tested as good as when the mass speld button came out! Now I feel like I took 10 steps back because I use to keep 60+ foals each season and now I'm lucky if I keep 30 :))
It's definitely something to get use to but really hoping the quality of my lines keep going up with these awesome mass options!
*Whispers* maybe Ammit will give us a mass tack delete button someday 8-> -
I just culled at least 40 5th gen mares because they didn't have dams that tested superior dating back to 3rd gen min. I'm down to 22 in my pasture, and it still feels liberating. Of course, I need to sort through the young ladies I hadn't put in pasture yet.
There were several losses among the 3 year old ladies, but not too many.
The 2 year olds came out very much the best once I had checked their pedigrees. Only had to cull two out of the 19 fillies I had.
I know this is gonna hurt me short term since so many older bloodlines are now gone but that's for the best since this will result in better quality over time.Post edited by Forestshadow at 2020-03-05 23:10:44 -
I love culling. It does feel liberating. I need to finish sorting through my last batch of foals and catch up again.
Even more liberating was working my way through my freezers! I’ve finally got it emptied down to 2 foundation studs with 2 & 150 straws (which is still a lot but I started with over 900)Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
Yeah, I'll have to go through my straws and eggs and delete those that don't pass the new criteria

Oh Yes! I am currently going through all of my gens and comp testing, adding tattoos, and culling were it's needed! I just finished my 2 gen barn today (took a bit of funds and time lol) and it feels great! Still have my 3 gens to do and hoping the lines will improve to get a few gold/star's by 4 to 5 gen! I'm actually pretty excited about it!Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!
