    Just trying to understand economics of the game better, so help me out here please. I know mushroom has to be added, but that seems like a lot for a horse who is only heterozygous and old enough to possibly pass away in a month and a half. What other factors make him so valuable, or is the single mushroom just worth more than I realized?

    He sold right away. And yes, he was GMD which costs a significant amount PLUS the real life money costs of mushroom. He can also breed for up to several more seasons and have straws pulled. His new owner will enjoy no doubt :)
