Questions about gray
-
I bred a gray mare with a chestnut stallion and got this little filly. I think she's pretty, but her color says gray even though she seems really kind of brownish. Is that the sooty that's making her that color? I don't have any gmt tokens right now or I'd check to see if she has dp. I really like her I'm just curious if anyone knows what is causing her to look like this because it seems like an interesting combo.

She will gradually go grey as she ages. This game mimics what happens in real life. I don't know how Ammit does it - I suspect witchcraft!

Haha! These silly forums know all your secrets! By the way that's really cool that she'll change as she ages.

I keep a few greys around the barn to watch how they age, just like varnish every rollover they look a little different!

Any horse that carries the Gray gene will have Gray as its color name. This is because Gray is dominant over all other color genes and eventually washes them out. Pattern gene names will still appear, but the base color and other dilution genes do not.
The brown you are seeing on your filly is her base sooty chestnut showing through. -
Real life example: have you ever seen the Lippizan horses from the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, Austria? They aren’t born gray. They’re born bay, brown, or black (not sure about chestnut, but I don’t think that is included). It takes several years for them to turn gray, with them graying out more every year until they are “white”.I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!
