geld or auction
-
So I had a Month of Manfoals ; of the aprox 150 mares I bred 90 of them were boys
I had some A papers and more B papers than C ; I culled everything under a PT score of 10 ; I know I am not going to breed the C papered Stallions as I have enough Foundations; my question is : is it worth keeping them as show Geldings or am I better off in the long run to just Auction them to the game ?
Barn Space is not currently an issue -
I personally dont keep my 2md-4th gen spelds, only because I have a massive show hard with pointed foundations mixed with 12.5(+) pt horses.
With culling, start with your goal in mind. If youre breeding for, say dark buckskin appys, cull anything that isnt dark bucksin and/or appy.
Then go back, and look at the original scallions papers. If he is a C, his sons should be B or better (again, personally, i test those to an expro and only keep if it's aga). If he is B, his sons should be superior Bs or As. As should only foal aga As (if not using boosted blue foundation mares).
Once you have culled based on paper, put the last group of boys together. Who is consistent, has the most color to your goals. If they have the same sire, and youre stuck between keeping two, compare them to each other and keep the superior one.
Personally, if I have extra space I toss low PT and no point horses to auction. Id rather use that space for pointed foundies or my high PT trainies :)
