Merging horses and Breeding Ability

I probably missed this during the roll-out of, but I'm having difficulty finding the announcement post. How does is the breeding ability of a merged horse impacted by the breeding ability of the horses merged together? Is it an average? From what I understand, the "chosen" horse desides the breeding ability. The one you merge it with only gives its color genetics. I think :PID 195859

The donor horse only gives his 'color' genetics, everything else is provided by the 'target' horse.HJ1: 266615

Yup, that is correct. I chose an expro mare and merged a yellow paper into her. The mare stayed red papered.
Same with the lined merge. I merged a gelding into a superior mare.#243786

Can someone link me to an explanation of merging? I only just came across the term in this post which I looked at from curiosity.
