Superior?
-
Ok so I thought I made a oops, this girls Dam hadn't been BA tested when I bred her, which rarely ever happens and after I realized I went and BA tested the mare and she got spayed. Yet he foal came out Superior and intact, she is superior because her dam failed testing (I think...right?)
So my question is, how would she test to a superior foal whos dam didn't fail BA? I'd like all my 2g mares to be on the same breeding level is possible and keeping her if she's a bit lower and wouldn't throw intact horses wouldn't be worth it :) Should I jsut throw the extra 8k and test her to a sibling whos dam passed BA?

Thank you! I don't know if that all makes sense, if I need to I can try to reword itPost edited by kgstable at 2020-06-27 10:40:32 -
It makes sense. She's superior to her dam, but you then realized her dam isn't up to the standard for her generation, so being superior to her doesn't necessarily mean this filly is up to the standard for her generation. It doesn't mean she isn't either, but you don't know.
Fortunately, this is easy to fix! Pick a mare from her generation that you know is where you want her to be, then comp test this filly to that 'benchmark'. If she's about as good as, then she's where you want her to be. If she's superior, then she's surprisingly even better! And if she's worse than that benchmark, then she's lower quality than you want from this gen.
I do this all the time with Red fillies from Yellow dams and B sires. I comp them to a Red mare who is superior to her Red dam. If the foal doesn't test at least AAGA that benchmark mare, I know she's not up to the quality level for that line/generationSpiderweb Stables

@Taliesin That makes sense! I'll definitely try that and see, I was just trying to save 8k :)) (I just saw that money transfer, thank you so much :) )
Edit: She's AGA!Post edited by kgstable at 2020-06-27 11:40:51 -
Yay, I'm glad she 'passed'!
And I get that; I try to strategically plan my comp testing, cuz it can add up! But I think you'll find this one was free ;)Spiderweb Stables
