Is the boost mares get worth keeping them in the pasture or for those that would show well is it better to get the showing points and such?

To me I do either or, if the mare has the genes I want I put them in my pasture to get that bonus otherwise I'll use them as a show horse if they're PT score and consistency is right.
If I have a mare that has a great PT score, I'll breed a foal from her and keep that foal as a show pony rather then giving up a good breeding mare.
To me (maybe not others) It's easier to find/breed some good show horses then good breeders so I tend to keep all the good breeders I can get

I geld almost every stud colt I get ; so my show herd is building fast ( the past 3 months have been manfoal months for me ) ; I leave my mares in pasture and let them earn whatever breeding bonus they get ; they are still training so you ll still get paid a "bonus" for them albeit a small one
