What to do next?

Hi all! Newbie here. I have created enough horses to fill my main barn, I do still have a welcome pack barn with 15 spots. I’m over 20,000 points and bringing in a little over 2k a day. I guess I’m just wondering what to do next with my goals in mind? I’ve been reading all the forum posts I can trying to soak everything up, it just seems I’m not quite there yet.
I want to breed, not sure what for yet. I like brindle so that may be somewhere to start and appaloosa. I also really like the performance aspect and getting a herd up to higher showing status. I would like a fully sustainable show herd.
But, I don’t really know how exactly to do all of this, just been trying to head in the right direction. So, am I heading in the right direction? Anything else I should be doing right now? -
Hey there! Welcome! I've only been playing a little while, so I'm not going to be your greatest resource, but my first move would be to focus on your show herd first. There's a lot of info about bootstrapping, which is a really effective way to create a sustainable show herd, but isn't considered "responsible breeding practices" by certain standards, since it involves a lot of inbreeding for PT stats primarily.
Brindle unfortunately isn't something you can really breed for, since chimerism happens completely by chance (similar odds as twins), but a lot of the genetics are super interesting. A good way to see what you like is to look through the forum and see what you're drawn to on things like sales posts and stuff, since the horse search function can be a little overwhelming. I personally fell in love with the silver black and liver chestnut colors, and so I have WAY too many livers and I can't stop. It's super addictive.
Did you see Herzeloyde's forum post about selling them a horse for 150,000 to help get you started?Formerly OscarWildin

Seconding OscarWildin!
If you're not sure what you want to breed for, take your time & build up a show herd!
I recommend getting really familiar with the search function, it's got a million uses.
It's also fun to save up for tack packs & dress up your ponies :D
There are often great show horses in the auction, and I second bootstrapping as a way to build up PTs fast.
Basically bootstrapping involves taking a very high breeding ability stallion (a *Star papered one with lots of Star papered stallions in his pedigree) and breeding them to cheap foundation mares, keeping the fillies, then breeding those to either the same stallion or a similar one. There isn't a great market for these horses because they're "uneven," meaning there are a different number of generations on different sides of their pedigrees.
But it's hard to sell perfect, even bred horses with great genes sometimes too, because everyone has their own lines. So I wouldn't worry about that aspect of it! It's much more valuable to have good show horses than "sellable" horses.
-If you don't have the hbs right now to buy a really high Star stallion, try creating an Exceptionally Perfect one.
-Then pick up lots of Exceptional Producing herd helpers, create mares with them.
-Put the mares in the pasture and breed them,
-run BA & SBA on all the foals.
-Paper the ones that are still intact & only keep the Blue & A ones. It may take a while to get some, but 2nd gen As & Blues give you a great base for a show or breeding herd. -

How are you fixed for Appaloosas? I've been collecting them with the intention of doing something at a later date, but at the moment they're just sitting there. I'd be glad to share some with you.Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2020-07-28 12:22:50

There is so much information stashed all over the place in this game, and the more you learn about it the easier it will be to figure out what you want to breed for down the line.
As has already been said, start with your show herd. While you are near pointed creates collect some good ones, like over 300 points. Points go as high as 1000, so you can get really nice ones if you just keep creating. On my server 3 accounts I've just hit the point of being able to afford a basic upgrade, so that was 5 months. Create, judge & decide if worth testing, breed, send unwanted mares and foals to auction. Rinse, and repeate. Some Exceptional ponies have a market in Public Sales if they are gene tested and unbred, but you can only have 50 horses for sale at any given time, so they take up barn space. Toss most of your funds into getting more barns, that's where you keep your money makers. If you don't want to do a cull to get back under the point cap, I recommend picking up some older show ponies in auction. Sherwood Stables already mentioned Bootstrapping, and that can be a great way to find what tickles your fancy when it comes to colors, and build some investments. I didn't even start even breeding till I'd been playing over a year.

Don't worry about your first forays into breeding! Just breed a couple of cool colors and see what you get. Try a variety of different crosses and see which ones you like best. This game is great for long term planning and not having to rush anything!
