Help catch me up!
-
Hey all! Not sure who all here remembers me but I used to play HAJ extensively as a teen. I haven't been involved since probably 2013 when I went to college & I believe my original account was deleted. I remade this one in 2016 but didn't really get back into it until now when I suddenly have a lot of quarantine time on my hands. Obviously there have been a lottt of changes and I've tried to browse Announcements a bit but there's just so much and I'm not even sure what really I don't know at this point so I figured I'd ask a few things and then let anyone who wants fill me in on anything else major!
-Servers? I remember right when HAJ 1/HAJ 2 started so I'm assuming this is some development from that probably? How do they work?
-There are so many new genes that I'm not even sure which all I have questions on but to start with - Non Dun? How does that one work?
-How do points work? I read the Announcement post about new creates having points but am unsure of the significance.
-I think a game year used to be two real life months but I could be wrong. Is that still the case?
-Can someone give me just a quick run down on showing? I feel like I had a tenuous grasp of it at best even when I played regularly and I feel like it's changed a lot.
-Anything else anyone can think of off the top of their head that's a major change I'd love to know about!
Apologies if any of these are answered easily somewhere already! Still getting familiar with all the changes and where to find things.
Also just an update on me in case anyone remembers me and is curious - I'm 25 now, I graduated with a BFA in Studio Art in 2017 and now work full time as a graphic designer and am in grad school for urban planning. I moved out of state for undergrad and have now been in Oklahoma for 6 years and rent a cute house with two roommates where I have a dog, two cats, a tortoise, a fish, and about a million house plants. -
Hi - I remember you! I haven't got a lot of time on here right now (looking after 6 year old granddaughter!) but I can answer a couple of basics.
One Haj year is now one real life month on all three servers. HAJ1 (Bluegrass), HAJ2 (Forest) and HAJ3 (Mesa) all run the same way. Join one or all as you wish.
Other people will answer your other questions. Don't forget there's no such thing as a daft question. :) -
Elfin ; hi there are a couple of discussions that you help you HUGE right now : I ll post and edit as I copy and paste

I had asked those and more questions too. The best explanation of the daily payout came from Taliesin. I actually understood it, too. (I don't know how to do a link to a quote so I had to post it here)
Quote: Taliesin wrote:
"2. The Daily Payout process:
-When a horse enters a show, they earn points based on how they place in the class. The higher they place, the more points they get. These points are theirs to keep, and they collect them over time.
-Training increases a horse's show score - how well they do - which moves them up the places in the class, which means they earn more points per show. Improving enough to move to a higher class means that they may be at the bottom of the class for a while again, but until they level off they will keep improving.
-Those points are translated into daily payout. I don't remember the exact calculations, but the more total points all of your horses have, the higher your daily payout will be.
- A horse's estimated lifetime payout is their daily payout multiplied by the number of days between now and the monthly rollover when they age from 17 to 18 and have a chance of aging out. If they're already 18, then it's the days until next rollover, when they have a chance of aging out. Basically, how much they will earn you if they earn no more points and age out at the soonest possible rollover.
- A horse's daily payout only increases, and will keep increasing until they level off, and then it depends on where they level off. The unlucky ones who happen to level off at the bottom of the class they're currently in will not earn many, if any, more points, and their daily payout won't increase. These are the horses that people auction after ten years old, because then you get the entire lifetime payout and open a stall, and you probably wouldn't get much more by holding on to them and collecting their daily payout until they age out. A horse who levels off at the top of the class, however, will keep earning points because they're placing well, and that means their daily payout will continue to increase. You get more from these over time by keeping them and collecting the daily payout than you would by auctioning them.
- A horse with no points (and only creates from new players start out with points, lined foals and creates from everyone else start with no points) will earn points as they go, so yes they're worth keeping (depending on the rest of the factors, obviously). I keep all my snips with a PT score of 11 and above, because they gather points for longer and tend to end up with more. I see plenty of horses start with 0 points as a new foal and end up at over a thousand.Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2020-07-24 13:42:37Thanked by 1Herzeloyde -
Congratulations on your degree and good luck with the new studies.
Non Dun 1 is a real life mutation of the Dun gene, found especially in horses from the Iberian Peninsula--Andalusians and Lusitanos. It is recessive to the full dun mutation (D), and dominant over non dun (d). It can produce some of the primitive markings--a dorsal stripe and shoulder bars, sometimes very broad. It does not need to be homozygous to express itself. Here are a few examples from my stable.

The major thing about show points is that it makes it profitable to show your horses unless they have leveled off to come in last in all their classes. Even then, if they have collected a decent number of points, it still pays to keep them in your stable because they will still receive their nightly showing bonus.
The formula is # of points times .75 divided by 7, to give the nightly payout. As horses show during a week and add points, the payout is adjusted accordingly.
Here's where my account currently stands for this:
You currently hold 2,056,326 points.
You earn a 220,320 hb's daily bonus from showing.
The more horses you have, the larger your showing bonus can grow to be. Right now, I have just over 4000 horses in my stable. ^^

One new feature of the game is the Roving Gene Sale. Twice each month (usually the 1st and the 15th, approximately) three selected limited edition or closed genes are randomly selected to be sold for real money and placed on one of your chosen unbred young foundation horses. This is done through PayPal.
You select your horse and can purchase either one or two copies of a gene. If you take two, they have to be placed on different strands (the sire's or the dam's contribution). Just go to Buy Upgrades--Limited Edition Gene Sales. Prices vary according to the gene in question.
When Ammit adds a new gene to the game, it will be available there for a given amount of time.Post edited by SandyCreekAcres at 2020-07-24 15:12:40
