A vent as I can't talk about it on social media...

I am beyond upset.
We moved into a new house in February that was absolutely a distaster. The owner was great in being willing to pay some contractors to fix the place up. Well in the month before covid they showed up a few times, enough to tear it all up and leave us on the subfloors while we had a stay at home order in place in our state. About 6 weeks later, when things wound down a bit we gave them a green light to come back in and work, but they still barely ever showed up, (this was in May), and didn't wear masks even though they said they would. Well, fast forward to now, August, and they got what could have been done in two weeks, all done.
I found out after they started that I was pregnant and was weary about having them in the house but also tried to understand that the work does need to get done...
So owner came and looked and asked for touchups to be done. They didn't show up again for a week. I got a text Thursday from their boss saying
"Oh hey sorry I haven't been by. My brother tested positive for covid and I was just at his house this weekend moving furniture so I'm getting tested" and so I'm like ok cool they won't be back for a while.
Guess who showed up today, no masks, and came into my house without even telling me they were coming!! 5 guys working including the boss.
"Well the test was negative"
Have they never heard of incubation periods???
I'm 32 weeks along today... Am I overreacting in freaking the heck out or would you be upset too? I literally don't even know what to say. I'm scared to go into my house now and my dogs are there. My car keys, everything. My boyfriend has asthma I can't really send him in. I don't know what to do. My state is blowing up all over again with a lot of cases in my area. I'm beyond frustrated. -
No, I don't think you're overreacting. They certainly are ignorant about any best practices in these times. I hope you'll be able find a friend willing to go in masked and rubber gloved to retrieve the stuff. Here's a link to some information about how long corona viruses can last on surfaces:

Make sure you can sterilize whatever comes out. I hope everything works out for you soon, some way. >:D< -
We ended up coming in with bleach after about 5 hours and soaking down whatever we could. We still can't find lysol anywhere. luckily I doubt they were in our room as my dogs were in here and they don't like them so I've kinda just hung out here and got a shower and am tucked in for the night.
I'm just frustrated all around. It's a weird situation as we work for the lady we rent the house from, who leases from an owner who lives far away. She had put me in charge of checking in when the guys are coming, and every single other time they let me know before they came. Today I was right in the middle of teaching a lesson with a 5 year old on a horse when I saw them pull up and my heart dropped because I knew there was nothing I could do about it and I had to focus until that lesson was finished.

99% of the contractors I know work and pay their helpers " by the day" ; put a sign up saying ; NO MASKS NO GLOVES NO ENTRY ; legally you are allowed to NOT let them in your home if they show up without PPE after the sign is posted ; its only gonna take `1 day of having to pay his guys without getting paid him self to teach that lesson.
also no you aren't over reacting and most Walgreens are giving free COVID tests, not sure where you live ; but hopefully you can get piece of mindPost edited by annismyrph at 2020-08-09 05:33:40 -
Can you get a Covid test for yourself? That might give you a little peace of mind. And no, you are not over-reacting.

I plan to get a test closer to my due date so I can know what to expect. And I'm still trying to decide what to do about work. I teach riding lessons so I'm around a lot of people in a given week. Given what they can do if you test positive for covid in hospital, I'm considering the idea of stopping to work 3 weeks before to cut down on my chances.
I'm not as scared of the virus as I am of the outcome if I test positive when I go for delivery- even if I'm asymptomatic. I told my boss/landlord this and they are halting work until after baby comes and I give the green light. Unfortunately a part of the work that needs to be done is on the room for the nursery so it's hard to say what the right answer is. But I'm tempted to just have my boyfriend finish that work so it's done and just say forget it to these idiots .. -
ask your landlord if you can get some money back ( or credit towards rent ) if you complete some of the repairs your self ; 2 birds then :)

Hi, I'm in nursing school, and happened to spend the summer doing an externship on our hospital's OB unit. I think standard practice has been to quarantine for 2 weeks prior to delivering, however I doubt anyone would fault you for being extra careful and taking a longer hiatus. Especially considering babies don't care about due dates when it comes to arrival.Go boldly, where no App has gone before!
