Lets Rebuild a Community
  • Before I begin, I would like @Ammit to be aware of this post & that I am trying to determine the root cause of why so many players have quietly disliked me, and how I can determine what changes need to be made to "rebuild" my part of the community. If this is any way against the rules, I apologize in advance & accept any fair consequence.

I do not post much on the forums anymore, and This forum post is exactly why.
@taliesin publicly humiliated and disrespected me, rather than sending me a private message to discuss her dislike for me. And in doing so, and seeing the responses from a few other people, I thought to open a discussion thread so we can talk about it, maturely and respectfully, so that everyone can understand and be on the same page.

I played this game many, many years ago, and stopped because of things in my personal life. I started back up in 2017, and have (to what I thought) been growing with the game as best I could understand. I made posts if I didn't understand something, asked as many questions as possible, offered assistance to those in need or to new players, like @LadyHawkStables. I am human, this is at the end of the day a video game, and I am flawed. I have made mistakes, but when I find out I have made them I ask questions so that I can learn where I erred & make improvements.

The only thing I would like to address, was the comment @taliesin made about me intentionally buying low/selling high, or purposely (selfishly, I suppose is the better word) took advantage of others for my own gains. And, in return, the comment @LadyHawkStables made in rebuttal, saying that if she had been in my place, with her previous knowledge of sales, and by examining sales boards, as well as never having been told of a mistake, would likely have posted the sale the same way.
My comment is that no, I do not purposely buy low/sell high, never intentionally. I usually bid on a lot of horses in auction and then sort through a whole barn a day later. I never look at what I paid, I only take either the rank (if foundation, as this case mentioned an issue with) or the genetics, etc, and do a market search. I have notes I keep on paper with me that I change as the market changes, because there are so many HHs and values, and everything changes. For example, I made a post a while ago about het DP expro and experf foundations. I had had liver ex perf het DP mares sell for upwards of 150k, and then a bay ex perf het DP mare be marked as "too high" when I posted for 50k. I was confused, and made a post, and several members said that a "fair" value for a plain expro or experf was around 25k, and that I sold the livers way too high and a more fair price would have been 75k. Those that don't sell, if they have points, I usually snip and use as a show horse, no big deal.
With Candy Appies, I have seen their markets drastically and wildly fluctuate. I collected a bunch of them with the intent of starting a brown DP appy line, but after I spent so much collecting them, realized I couldn't afford the GMTs to change their genes to how I liked. I then went to the sales, searched their HH, and found that the two or three listed were all 150k, or, the highest, at 200k. And my notes I saw that I marked they were valued only around 25k (what I had paid). I thought perhaps there was again, a change in market, so I posted them for 125k, to my knowledge thinking it was under market value.

This is my statement, my side of the story. I enjoy this community, and I enjoy playing this game. I play this game as truthfully and as faithfully as a I can, and am always eager to learn new information. Clearly, from that post, there are a lot of unhappy people with me who have chosen to remain silent rather than confront me or discuss their issues with me. I would like thoughtful, respectful, input on what mistakes I have made and how you think I could have handled it better or can do better in the future.

Out of respect, I have also removed all of my horses on my Sales List, as I would like input on their sale prices (because, again, I never pay attention to previous sale price when I am sorting 300+ horses, I look at points/age/rank/market value). For example, there is a Better Brindle Breakout that I would normally sell for 15k (I have sold many in the past for this price). There is another horse, a yearling colt with a 13.5/*Star grade, AGA his sire, that I normally would sell for 125k (I have sold plenty in the past at this price and even bought colts for higher than this).

I appreciate you for taking the time to read this, and for those that can provide positive feedback. Thank you

  • I don't really know what has gone on in the past as I've not had many interactions with you directly, but would agree I would sell most Brindle HH creates for 15k unless for some reason they were particularly special, either DP, Snow, Liver or a limited release.

It's a shame it took place on my thread and now there's a need to address it publically, I know that everyone plays the game differently and sometimes it is hard to judge if someone is being sincere if they play a different way, I hope you manage to resolve your queries here and get back to business asap. I know it doesn't feel great to be in this position.

I do not think the candy apply was worth 125k, to me at least, but to someone who wanted exactly those genes and therefore wouldn't need to spend additional gmt’s they may well have been willing to pay that - I don't tend to buy horses from others so don't have a fully formed opinion on prices, and my sales horses are all pretty standard depending in their genes.

  • @DarkFrost
I do sincerely apologize that that happened on your thread, please know that I did not intentionally try to oversell you. If he had been something you were looking for (I think you said he needed the ff removed on both strands) I could remove those and then sell him? What would be a more fair price to you?
  • @bravo25 it's ok, I probably would have taken him if he only needed one GMT change to get the right base as I spend a fair bit on my foundation studs and I had not had any luck making my own! White Valley actually made me a beautiful stud so I'm now just looking for mares.

I think I mentioned it on the original post but FLSequine may have use for him off the top of my head. :) If he was mine and I was selling on the open market I probably would have charged 50k (35k for Hom Sooty/Het DP, 15k HH) off the top of my head.

  • @DarkFrost
Thank you for the input, it is greatly appreciated. Please send me a PM, I might have a few mares you can use :)
  • Wow I read that post and Tali had no reason to act the way they did. @bravo25 you do a fantastic job in selling your horses. The stuff Tali said was uncalled for and extremely rude.

  • I know on a couple of occasions I have privately messaged you and told you the pricing you had was too high ; your response to me was ; if they want it they will pay it ; because that's were you sold them in the past ; and rather than drop your price you spayed them ; I sent a list of " brown" horses in that thread ; in there were about a dozen candy applaloosa's and I stated either for what I paid for them or 5k I believe ; of all of them 3 were over 5k ; one was 10 one was 15 and the one I purchased from LadyHawke was 50 ; my comment that you bought that candy you offered for 125 was that you paid 6050 for him from auction ; instead of acknowledging that you held firm to your price ; THATS overpricing the market. I ve seen you do it for months and I ve learned to not even look at your sales threads because if I do ; I ll be compelled to tell you they are in auction for 2750 or at the forums for 5-10k from others; and I am sure your response will be the same " if they want them they will pay it "
That is not what I ve seen this community be ; what so many of us do ; and that's why I say things ; Taliesin says things ; WhiteValley DOES things.

  • I am unable to address this tonight, and clearly folks could use a chance to cool off as well. I have put the three involved members on sabbatical until at least tomorrow so I can sort out this drama.
