Question about Nexus genes
-
So I've never played around with them before, but I just bought Wrong Warp and Axiom for a recent create, and I think I may have misunderstood how they play with coat color? I don't hate it, but I am surprised at how he turned out. Does axiom behave like a negative? Because I used a black colt with no white factor, and he's very... Light. If
If that's the case, I'll just add a kit gene or something to him, but I want to make sure I'm understanding WHY it's doing what it's doing first.

I know Nexus and WW invert the colors, white becomes black. Nexus adds stars and I see it look blue or grey, WW in homozygous form also creates a warped image on the hip.
Most of my nexus/WW have markings or Wtc so color is more noticeable. This is a bunch of them. KP does cool cloud like marks on them too.

Okay, that makes a ton of sense. Excellent, when I add either a kit gene or some Appaloosa to him, he should get interesting. He's het for snowflake, but I'm not sure if it's worth making him hom while snowflake is for sale? Will it show up at all over the Nexus genes, or would it act more like an invisible future gift to his progeny if bred right?Formerly OscarWildin

I don't breed for those genes, but I do know that Wrong Warp turns white places black and Nexus gives a star field effect.

I don't know about snowflake as I don't breed LP but you should be able to use the search to find some.

Hom Nexus gives black horses a grey color. The darker the horse, the lighter the color. The lighter the horse, the darker and "prettier" the color(s).
I'll give you some examples, as I love breeding for it but haven't gotten into it to heavily but enough to understand to know what I need to get what I want.
This is my boy that started it, he's a black horse with some white on his legs. The black on him got turned grey while his white socks turned into a beautiful starry void.

I'm not sure what color this girl is but she's blue with big galaxy star spots so I'm guessing maybe a silver brown. Her dun markings are the light blue on her legs, muzzle, and the stripe. Regardless of color dun will lighten those spots as it's supposed to with or without fantasy genes.

I'll update this later...something well... -
These are the ones I started out with, and have had several offspring/grand offspring/great grand offspring turn up that light grey color.
HOT Simply Perfect Base is Silver Classic Champagne Dun Splash Frame
HOT Fully Loaded Base is Red Dun Roan Splash Frame Rabicano but I GMT'd the frame off

Thanks so much! This is really helpful. I may throw a dilution gene like silver (or maybe even a copy of cream) on, and probably a kit gene like sabino.Formerly OscarWildin

This is my current entire herd of Nexus. I absolutely LOVE this gene. My original foundation was this lady:
PF Happy Enemies
She was one of the first horses with the Nexus gene when it first came out.
Champagne and Dun bases seem to do the best.I breed Drafts and star horses :D

Nexus is great, because things like ice genes, watercolour etc still interact and show through. Can get some really neat effects
