I noticed I collected a lot of intact, well bred horses that I usually would just snip & use as show horses. But in doing so, also noticed that the public broodmares list was thin, there wasnt a whole lot of variety and it was uncommon to see horses that werent "basic" - horses with KP, SMF, DP, GP, etc.

I started collecting my show herd that also doubles as broodmares -
Foundations - not many exceptionals on the market, so I exclusively collect expro and ex perf mares of all bone
2g - a small percent are blues, but most of the herd are Reds. Should I paper test all these mares & keep only superior, or would an AGA mare be used all the same?
3g & Above - this herd is tiny tiny, maybe forty 3gs, a dozen 4gs and lined mares. I havent found any even bred/superior 5/6/7gs yet

My question for debate, is if yall turn to piblic breeding, what do you look for? Is it gene over anything else? Bone? Base color? Fancy flash? Paper scoring & even line breeding?

I'd like to help bolster the public broodmare herd, but I'd love to know what you guys look for! Thank you :)
