I'm having a brain fart, shouldn't this horse be Brown?

At/At genes, some horses are listed as Bay and some as Brown and now I'm confused as to why. Only thing I can think is there is no Sty?Post edited by Ammit at 2020-12-26 05:38:50HJ1: 266615

That is odd. Since brown is a version of bay and this horse is heterozygous black with no other agouti genes, I’m pretty sure it should be brown...
Edit: I actually just did a search and of the first page of horses that match these genetics, they are all bay. No brown. I guess brown needs sooty or DP for the darker pigmentation. Interesting!Post edited by Nightphoenix at 2020-10-11 15:22:38I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me! -
Indeed, I never realised that and it's not mentioned in the genetics guide either xD It's just coincidence I breed for Hom Sooty (this mare isn't part of my lines anyway but first time I saw it happen)HJ1: 266615

Its a pretty good article and goes into some depth

Homozygous brown At/At are lighter than het browns, so without the sooty they present as bay
